Edinho played for city from 1997 to 1999 scoring 16 goals, at this time I was distanced from the goings on at Bradford City but I gather that many supporters have a soft spot for the Brazilian – 1 question – why?

I agree, the fact that he always played with a smile on his face endeared him to many.

It was obvious that he put everything into his game. He played with his heart on his sleeve! I don't think he had much luck with the language or the lifestyle but he tried his very best!
Oh and he was Brazilian ffs. What more do you want from a footballer?!

I remember working with the grounds staff at Valley Parade, Paul Jewell and Edhinho would always stay behind after training and run around the pitch for a good 30 minutes. He gave everything and was very polite and had one hell of a strong hand shake!

I remember Shaun Murray taking the piss out of him though.

He was brilliant, he obviously loved his football and i think he loved us the fans too......he'd be in my top 10 City hero's!! A hundred percenter who the crowd took to immediately, once saw him in the Queens Hall on his own, yellow suit jacket, white t-shirt and stone washed jeans - don't think fashion had hit Brazil :D I bought him a pint of guiness and he downed it in a pretty impressive time.....tup: Cracking little fella - would love to have a player like that in the team again!!

He loved Bradford and loved the fans... and they loved him back.

He was no mean footballer and was always in front of the Kop... geeing the fans up if things were'nt going right.. we could do with more players in his mould.

Talking of Heroes for none footballing reasons, i reckon Morribobs was a laugh! Cheeky little fecker who didn't really shine on the pitch but was cocky and cheeky off it, used to play all the pranks, told by the players that that is what people need in the changing rooms!?

He also had a taste for Guinness - remember him at a fans forum with a pint of the black stuff in his hand and a great big grin on his face! The thing that endeared us to Edhino the most was his attitude. Play with a smile on your face, put everything in and even if you're not the world's best player you will earn the respect of the Valley Parade faithful.

I've said this for ages now, our fans respect workrate - we aren't gloryboys (well the hardcore aren't anyway), we've been too used to scrapping it out at the level we're at now. We respect workhorses and triers, which is why in a strange way we had enormous respect for Carbone - superstar he may have been but he worked his bollocks off as well.

Edhino was a trier and a pretty decent one as well.

I remember a fans forum at VP when he had a translator. Even through a translator he had the crowd in stitches with his stories & he was supping his beloved Guinness & said he was under orders to take Fish & Chips home after the meeting cos his Mrs loved them. He understood more than he was letting on & the glint in his eye when asked about the Bury fracas & Keith Curle incident told us everything. My son & me actually met him 3 years ago in Portugal, he had a sports shop in Olhao & we went in with City shirts on & were greeted like family. He has a City pennant on the wall & i just wish we had a camera with us, he was a star & a true character always with a smile on his face, Top Man

I remember once we were sat in the Bradford End, things obviously weren't going our way because he put a cross in across the box and it didn't reach anyone, and he clearly and visibly said 'fcuk off'.

There were some kids in there and a sharp intake of breath from the parents emerged, he knew what he'd done immediately so he turned round and said sorry, then after the game came over to the stand and said sorry personally to a few people in the front row with kids.

He could've swore all day for me, I do it enough when I play footy, but the fact that he came over and apologised for it was much appreciated by the parents. I wonder how many foul-mouthed Prem stars would do the same nowadays...

Depends whether fans understood 'fcuk off' in French or Spanish;)

Yeah, the guy just loved the game, he loved the fans, he loved the club, he put his heart and soul into everything he did. Nothing NOT to like about him.
