Terry Dolan
After starting out on the wrong sides of the tracks – Bradford Park Avenue ;) – Terry joined City and made 448 appearances and scored 58 goals in his two spells with City.

In August 1986, Dolan was appointed first team coach at Bradford City.
Six months later, he was given the Bantams' manager's job as the club toiled to avoid relegation from the old second division. Dolan pulled the team together for a survival campaign that required seven wins from the club's last 10 games.

In May 1988, Dolan led Bradford into the promotion play-offs but the club lost their two-legged semi final to Middlesborough.

Bradford sacked Dolan after a run of poor form early in 1989,. Terry is still involved with City as a co- commentator on Bantams world, its easy to spot that he has a fine technical footballing brain, and City fans often mention his name as being linked with a return to manage the Claret and Ambers

Dolan is a legend and should never have been sacked. One of the worst decisions we ever made.
I'd have him back in a flash, perhaps as assistant/guru to Macca when he eventually turns up.

Terry Dolan was lucky to have the players he did.... and I say that knowing and likeing the guy as a person.

...he did nothing after he got sacked by city...

....we'd be just as well off with Joe Dolan.:D

Your joking right?....

He's had his time, and yep he did well - he's been out of the game far, far too long and must be about 163 years old now!!

You'd honestly rather have him over other ex City like - Beags, McCall, Hendrie, Jackson, Kamara etc etc.....there's about 10 ex City i'd have before him!!!

Years ago, went to a party at Terry Dolans sister, he was still living at home at the time, and playing for Huddersfield.

Anyway, after having had quite a few drinks, well, not that many, 'cos we were still of school age, my mate decided to ring a taxi, after about half an hour this white Capri pulls up outside of the house, my mate sees it, assumes it's the taxi, and rushes to the door, just as Terry Dolan is coming through it,my mate, who was not a football person says to him, "Great Horton please mate," Terry Dolan says "**** off", and goes upstairs to bed!

He's never lived it down.

I think some of you have short memories regarding Terry Dolantdwn: ...He took over from Trevor Cherry when City were all but doomed to the then 3rd division....he signed Ron Futcher & we won 10 of the last 11 games to finish comfortably in mid-table.

The season after we would have been promoted to the then !st division if we hadn't lost the last game of the season at home to Ipswich:mad: ...I blame JCT for us losing out that year as TD wanted to sign Keith Curle & Andy Townsend, JCT wouldn't give TD any money & we lost that last game due to injuries & suspensions that our wafer thin squad couldn't cope with!tdwn: ....great cup wins over Oxford, Southampton, Tottenham & Everton, all then top flight teams provided great memories under TDs stewardship jump:

I agree that after he left us he did feck all, but to say he inherited the team is pure bollox, yes we had McCall & Hendrie ect.. but these were the players at the bottom of the league when TD took over!

I think your all been dismissive & disrespectful of Terry Dolan's effortstdwn:

A Yorkshireman from Bradford, he was born in 1950 and began as an amateur at Bradford City, turning professional with Bradford Park Avenue in April 1969, moving to Huddersfield when Bradford dropped out of the League.
A tall, commanding midfielder with an ability to score from free kicks and penalties, he suffered at Huddersfield, who dropped from the First to Fourth Divisions during his time there.
He returned to Bradford City in August 1976, then moved on to Rochdale before joining non-league Thackley. He turned to coaching with Harrogate Town, as player-coach in 1981, and then returned once again to Bradford City as youth team coach in January 1985.
Later he moved up to first team coach and was appointed manager in January 1987 and steered the club clear of relegation with seven wins from the final 10 games.
The 1987-88 season ended with City losing to Middlesbrough in the play-offs for promotion to Division One.
He was replaced at Bradford by Terry Yorath but joined Rochdale in March 1989, leading Rochdale to the fifth round of the FA Cup in 1990 where they lost to eventual runners-up Crystal Palace.
In early 1991, he left Rochdale, accepting the offer to manage Hull City, where he stayed for six years, leaving in 1997 after the club were relegated to Division Three.
He was given the chance to return to management by York City and after initially struggling to lift The Minstermen from the bottom end of Division Three, he worked in incredibly difficult circumstances to take the club to within a whisker of the play-offs in the 2002-03 season.
York had gone into administration, and at one stage looked as though they might go out of existence completely. Despite having to go without wages during the worst period of the financial difficulties, Terry and his assistant Adie Shaw managed to keep results going on the field and were unfortunate not to make the top seven at the end of the season, eventually finishing in 10th place.
Despite their amazing efforts, which earned them the Tyne Tees TV Special Achievement Award, Terry and Adie were dismissed at the end of May 'for financial reasons' and placed on 'gardening leave' by the supporters' group that had taken over towards the end of the season.
Terry issued a statement shortly afterwards, saying: : "Coming so soon after having received the Tyne Tees TV Award for Special Achievement (for the team's performances last season), to describe myself as disappointed is something of an understatement. I know Adie Shaw feels the same.
"I am particularly disappointed because I was relishing the challenge of managing a real community club and taking on the Third Division with a team of youngsters.
"I, perhaps more than most, fully understand the financial problems of lower division football, and felt my experience would have helped the new owners who have not been involved in football before.
"I of course understand the need to cut costs but paying both Adie and myself to stay at home whilst paying someone else to do our jobs seems a funny way to go about it.
"I am now seeking the advice of the League Managers Association."
He continued: "Both Adie and I regret not having had the opportunity to say a personal goodbye to the players; I would however like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of them, and the backroom staff, for their help and loyalty throughout the period of my time at York City.
"In particular I would wish to record my admiration for the players who, despite the financial hardships and uncertainty of administration, kept York City afloat with performances that were never less than whole-hearted and at times exceptional.
"Each and every one of them deserve the gratitude of York City's loyal band of supporters.
"I would also of course like to pay tribute to those supporters. They may be a relatively small band, but their support was greatly appreciated by us all during the dark days of the administration.
"I am grateful to have had the opportunity to manage the club and notwithstanding our current disappointment, myself and Adie wish the club, players, backroom staff and supporters every success for the future."

I hope I didn't come across as disrespectful:mad:... I didn't say he didn't have a decent record... I'm saying that I don't think he could hack it without the players or the brass... which has been proved with the likes of 'ull and Rochdale.

Sorry Terry:)

Well I overheard a conversation when Terry was in Clayton con club one night and Salako was definately mentioned along with Curle and Townsend...
..but that doesn't mean Yorath wasn't in for him also as he wasn't a regular first team player then and wouldn't have cost an arm and a leg I don't suppose:D

Wow food for thought there really..

John Salako one of the best wingers in the game

Andy Townsend an average footy commentator

Keith Curle excellent pedigree at the back..

Oh what could of been.....

But then again if we relied on ifs buts or maybes we could always wonder where the club would be now if we had lost and Wimbledon had won on that fateful day...

We would be a strong Championship side at worst

Leeds wouldn't have gone bust after flitting away money on the Champions League...

Wimbledon would be still in the Prem struggling away

And Liverpool would have entered the Champions League a season or two early....

If only eh......

Threee clubs ruined in one game.......Does that mean a part of Liverpools Champions League title is ours tup: :D jump: jump:

I think Salako moved for 200k when he went to Palace which wasn't that much in them days!

Anyone remember Wayne Biggins?....we were trying to sign him for about 5 years! :D ...Jimmy Gilligan & Alan Comfort were also City targets at that timetup:

They weren't household names then but when you think what the backbone of the team would have been if we had got into the top division.... it doesn't bare thinking about... we could still be there for all we know, up with the big boys...jump: JCT what have you done??

I don't know maybe i'mwrong but i recall Brian Mitchell having a go at Tordoff about the lack of signings and jack came out in a interview to defend himself
Apparently Andy Townsend never wanted to come to City and from what Tordoff said City bid more than the club he went to Norwich i think but was not interested in the move north.
Keith Curle was another now at the time City and Wimbledon where both in for him which the dons came in with a decent fee which Tordoff asked Dolan if he wanted to match it but it was Dolan not Tordoff who turned round and said Curle wasn't worth the money
Now who would have thought Dolan would be connected to one of the greatest day of Citys history.
1988 summertime he signed Ian Banks :( Andy Thomas :( and Paul Jewell :)

Anyone remember who took over from Dolan? Damn near destroyed this club.
We should never have gotten rid of him.

He's welcome back any time he likes.
