Having forked out £45 yesterday at VP for the 2 of us, i was pleased City won but for the first time ever i felt my support for the club has been diluted a little.

Windass has dropped out of the legend statue for me, he may get to 100 golas for City but he'll never come near the legendary Bobby Campbell - that guy scored goals, played his heart out for the club, was worshipped by the fans and NEVER mouthed F off or gave hand gestures to disgruntled supporters. The big Irishman was rough and tough and would have eaten Windass and spat him out - he was also a real diamond geezer - some will recall the city team coach being in collision with a car on the motorway and BC being the first to jump off and help with the rescue of the trapped people.

The likes of Donny Hutchins and Joe Cooke, Peter Downsborough, Mark Ellis, of course Stu McCall, John Hendrie, Gavin Oilver, Dave Evans and others.

All great pro's and a credit to the club on and off the field.

Contrast now with some of the antics by todays pro's - thank god for the likes of Wetherall and Bower and Ricketts - without them around i feel my support for the club would reach breaking point.

You want your children to grow up to shpw respect to others and be able to rise above the jeers and not feel the urge to respond back the same way.

Maybe another reflection of how society is moving.

Sunday Sermon over, please put money on the plate at the back on your way out :-0

Right on 2 counts Wisey.

1) Windass, as good as he is/has been, will never be good enough to even lace up the boots of the great man.

2) It is more a reflection of society than the current standing of the club and it's players.

Today's society is fixated with celebrity and football does not escape that attention. There are too many prima donna's involved and rather than being put in their place, they are exalted and treat as figureheads for people to aspire to. Thus, their over-inflated ego's lead them to think they can do pretty much whatever they want.

I don't think it has anything to do with the amount of money floating round football/the premiership today, although that's not to say I don't think it's far too excessive. (Don't believe they only have a short career and have to earn as much as possible, they can always get a 'normal' job when they retire). IMO, this country started going downhill when they scrapped national service. The youth of today wouldn't know what hit them and as happens in other countries, there should be no exception for sports stars. If my memory serves me correct, didn't Savo Milosevic do a couple of years in the army? Never seemed to do him any harm.
