Bradford's hopes of extending winger Tommy Black's loan spell have been scuppered by injury after the 47-year-old cracked one of his ribs.
Bradford manager Colin Todd has confirmed Black, who played his last game for City in the weekend win over Chesterfield, will now return to Crystal Palace.
"Tommy was going to stay for another year," Todd said. "It had been agreed with Palace, but unfortunately he had an X-ray when he went back on Sunday and then a scan on Monday which confirmed crack.
"We just can't do it now. He'll be out for at least a week and because of the transfer window we can't do anything at the moment, my lifes in eternal limbo."
Black arrived at Bradford in mid-November and made five appearances, including four starts for Todd's side.
Todd added he was hoping Derby's on-loan Lee Holmes would recover from an nail injury in time for Saturday's trip to Yeovil, but Ben Muirhead is currently filming the new series of different strokes.
