View Full Version : Finances to out Todd?

Ok, so we're skint and probably can't afford to sack Todd. His water tight contract until 2009 means he's due a huge payout if we sack him before then. That's fair enough but we cannot go on like this. We need a plan to get rid. How much is Todd on? How much do his perks add up too? Company car, expenses etc. Todd is a reasonably big name in terms of management for this level so I would imagine he is on a good wage, in fact a very good wage. I would wager that we could employ a young, hungry manager for far less than we are paying Todd now.
What I am suggesting is that we cut our losses with Todd. Pay him off the rest of his contract which must be in the budget as he's been given this long contract. We advertise the job for half or even less than half the money Todd is on and employ the best candidate who applies. I'm sure there will be no shortage of applicants for a managers job even for a relatively small wage.
We could get the next Aidy Boothroyd! Anyone would be better than the Toddmiester in my opinion.
Anyway, that's my thoughts. I reckon we could afford to get rid if we managed the finances wisely.

It all sounds very god in principle but...
- i bet it's not in the budget to get rid of him if needs be, just because he has such a long contract doesn't mean they have planned for his departure!!
- when else have finances been managed wisely by the club recently?

I honestly dont believe for a minute that we dont have the money to remove todd, no way would even julian rhodes give todd a 5 year contract on more than enough money without having the funds to remove him if things didnt work out. I think if we lose against carlisle tomorrow and swansea on sat which is more than likely then we will have 31 points out of 27 games and i cant see even todd serviving that as we will be just outside the relegation zone by 1 or 2 points. This will surely spell the end for colin todd at this football club and we can finally move forward again.

I'm in 2 minds about all of this, who really knows what the contract contains apart from the parties involved? - there may be clauses within it to protect both sides - well most contracts enforecable in law do anyway!
The club has never been willing to divulge details of a players contract so i attach no real substance to those who say the likes of the club secretary have confirmed details of the managers!

Why would JR take the risk of bringing in a new untried manager. If the risk fails we have two managers contracts to pay off (plus assistants etc) and that would be real trouble. JR probably sees Todd as a good bet for a long haul until the financial position improves.
Its boring, but get used to it.

those choosing to stay away are going to cost the club money - It's a hard decsion to make - maybe he's(JR) waiting for the gang of 5 to open their wallets?

Why not coordinate a fund raising campaign to pay for Todd to be sacked. The campaign can donate all proceeds to the club once Rhodes sacks him. You could set up a web site; www.sacktoddnow.co.uk with Paypal denotions etc. It would have to be held by trustees of repute.
I'd happily pledge £1000.
The publicity itself should have a great impact.
