Since 1981 the slowest manager to get going has been Trevor Cherry. It wasn't until his 11th game that City won, although we did draw quite a few. He has also been the manager who had the longest reign since that period, with just over 4 years in charge. He is generally considered to have been a good manager, having taken us to promotion in 1985.
Wasn't without a poor start to the 1983-84 season which saw us 2nd bottom in November 1983 until a turbo-charge with 10 wins in a row elevated us back to midtable. With no playoffs back then it was really too late to mount a promotion challenge, but we finished a creditable 7th and then won the title the following year. This is just having gone into "administration" in the summer of 1983 and forming as a new company.
In 1986 we finished a safe 13th, notably one place above Leeds (and also above Huddersfield), and all this without our home ground. However the end of 1986 saw a decline in league form (in spite of some great results in the League Cup) and the team hit the bottom at the beginning of January. Not given the chance to turn things around this time, he was duly let go. The club however did turn things around, the main run coming by winning 7 of the last 9 games.
