I know we don't have any cash to buy ourselves an official feeder club but why haven't we networked the area to get some partner clubs for loans?
Conference: Halifax
Conf North: Farsley
Unibond Prem: Guiseley
Unibond First: Park Ave
There we have 4 (of the many) clubs in the neighbourhood that we should have close links with. 4 clubs we can use to bloody our more promising youngsters and see if they can make the grade. These teams have managers who are former Bantams and squads full of our ex players. We should be reet good buddies with these teams.
This season we have wasted our reserve team by filling it full of our youngsters and not using it to get our first teamers fit. Of course I agree that the youngsters need reserve football to help them step up but there should be a balance between reserve footy and being loaned out for first team footy.
Fact is if the first teamers who need games play reserve footy then there are less reserve slots for the youngsters.
There are a handful of promising kids who should have been loaned out this season. Only Nicky Smith has been loaned and only for a single month. Not enough to battle his way into a first team slot at Farsley and not long enough to tell us anything or really help him.
Prime candidates who could have gone out on loan:
Luke O'Brien
Tom Penford
Patrick McGuire
Steven Mitchell
Ben Saynor
Damian Hopkins
Sean Taylforth
Danny Harper
Leon Osbourne
John Swift
Joe Brown
Ok not all of them would have gone at the same time but Penfold and Brown needed a chance the most, Swift needed to find his level to see if he was going to end up at Halifax next season. O'Brien should have gone for a long time if he wasn't going to be given his much deserved chance in the first team. McGuire and Mitchell we would have learned much more about had they been sent out as they are at the age when we could have decided if we needed to keep them or not.
On the flip side we could be building better contacts with these teams so we can snaffle players on the cheap or have our scouts spot some talent when they watch the loanees in action.
What a total and utter waste of a season. Total waste. We have learned nothing this season. We knew about Ainge, Colbeck, Bentham and Brown last season already, if not a few seasons ago. Shocking lack of forward thinking.
If the older young lads are not in the picture get them out on loan. Rocket science?
