City are linked with Paul Warne in todays People after he was released by Oldham, Anybody know anything about him?

I thought we might have been sniffing around him when he was released but then I read that he'd not been offered a new contract at Oldham because he wanted too much money, so I dismissed it.

He's a bit of a niggly arse, will go to ground quite easily and complain a lot. But talking to an Oldham fan, he said he is quite a decent striker at L1 level and he would have offered him a new contract personally.

Not sure whether he's what we're looking for in terms of players that would be willing to run their arses off for the club though...

Stuart will blend the squad with a whole range of players ages.
Age doesn't neccesary dictate a players attitude, we've had many young players without hunger, yet had many older players with hunger ( EG Stu!!) for the game.

When Windass is sold and Stu returns from his holidays, expect a bid of around £100,000 for Sheffields Geoff Horsfield, signed by Sheff Utd last summer for over £1million , they've had him out on loan all season at Leeds and Leicester, and will be looking to offload at a knock-down price. The only stumbling block will be his wages.

Horsfield is coming here?.....mock:

I don't doubt this summer will be the 1st time in a long time that we sign a player or two for money, but Horsfield? Come on mate, there's not a prayer we could afford his wages, he can still do a job at Championship level too - why would he drop down to this level?

It begins!!!!

It's not surprising there are always disappointed faces round City as the season progresses when folk genuinley believe claptrap like this is possible:poo:

All Junior has to do is up the wage bill slightly let Stuart fish in the half decent free transfers pool. If he does that and Macca delivers a couple of seasons of mid table comfort, then he will have done a good job. Anything above that is unrealistic and thinking that the calibre of playes such as Geoff Horsfield and for that kind of money will be spearheading any immediate promotion challenge is unrealistic to the point of being a fairy story.:sorry:

The horse is not on his way here, we can not afford him, or his wages! AS for paying for players im not sure bout that....we have NO cash and no confirmation of investment so where is the cash gobnna come from?

AS for Warne...no way, not only is he old he has only scored just over 50 goals in his entire career according to this (although here he is listed as a midfielder):-

http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=10877

Doubt stu weould be stupid enpough to sign rubbish like this....if he does then were all going on a conference tour.

Paul Warne would be a good signing, got Oldhams player of the season award this year, a bit of a cult hero over there, apparantly a very hard worker, chases down every ball and would excell in league 2.

maybe i've interpreted the figures wrong BRB but it looks like he's scored 115 in all comps in his career. i think we have to be realistic about the calibre of player we can sign, a lot will be down to stu bringing out that bit extra in average players (something jewell did well).

And Paul Warne would fit into that catagoy a treat. He's the upper end of the freebies I'm talking about. His age isn't important it's wether he can do a job. I think his signing would represent a major coup in terms of who we can attract. It's all very well throwing cloud cuckoo land targets into the mix when thewre are players like Warne who we wouldn't have to push the boat out too far to get. He'd be a fine signing and as good as we can expect.

Perhaps but the issue with the guy in question is that he has never had the right attitude....a real whinger...He has only scorde 51 league goals...the brackets are sub apps (i think...now youve got me thinking)?????

Absolutely no chance of horsefield coming jesus christ is more likely to play for us upfront alongside mohammed with guru nanak in the free role just behind.

If were talking ex sheff utd players maybe Gerrard...Forte(ive heard a rumour on this one)...or kozluk

Agree BBB but how much would those 3 be a drain on the wage budget?:D

Forte did well in our league last year and could be persuaded by Stu i reckon

Sounds exactly like Andy Cooke - 100% player who chased every ball down, unfortunately he was a striker - and not scoring goals isn't a very good trait for a striker!!

Warne would be a good signing. He may not score loads BUT he played in every game for Oldham last year and won the player of the year award, ive had a few Oldham fans say that he'd be excellent in league 2, apparantly he's a hard worker that never gives up, chases down balls and can play on the wide right as well.

Like I say...he's just the kind of player that we should be looking at. He'd be a textbook, get us straight back up type signing.

maybe so but he did win player of the season or something at oldham. it's strange as people seem to be getting carried away over barry conlon who lets face it might be ok but he's not exactly set the footballing world alight either? we have to expect to sign average players at best and hope stu gets that bit extra from em.
