......has anyone got any useless pieces of footy trivia they want to share?
One to start off....
Only teams which have won the FA Cup can have triangular corner flags - Blackburn Rovers have the honour of being allowed their club crest on their flags, the reason being they won the FA Cup 3 times in a row in the 1800's but the FA were too skint to give them the cup so bestowed the honour of the club crest on their flags!!....

Spurs were the 1st ever British side to win a European competition (the Cup winners cup) in 1963.
C*ltic *spits* are the only team to ever win a European cup with an entire team made up of players from the country they represent!
The 1st British club to enter the European cup were Hibs in 1955!

Juventus originally played in pink shirts but changed after asking one of their english players (John Savage) if he had any contacts in England who could supply a kit that would stand up better to the elements. The friend he asked was a Notts County supporter and therefore they were sent black and white shirts.

Crewe Alexandra, Aston Villa and Chelsea are the only clubs to end in an "a".

Meeeeeeelan were founded by an Englishman and that's why they have retained the English spelling of 'Milan'. I think the original club also included a cricket club.

Arsenal keepers always have their shirt washed seperately the night before an FA Cup Final, after some cock up by the keeper in the 1920's, against Cardiff, also the only time the Cup has been won by a team outside England.

I've just checked and the list of Citys without professional clubs (not including conference) is....
Bath,
Cantebury,
Gloucester,
Chichester,
Ely,
Exeter,
Hereford,
Lancaster,
Litchfield,
Salford,
Salisbury,
St Albans,
Truro,
Wells,
Westminster,
Worcester!!
Aswell as Ripon and Wakefield....
Just goes to show that a professional football team really does lift the profile - apart from Hereford and Exeter (because of their teams) who would have thought that many of those others were Citys?....

The phrase "as sick as a parrot" comes from when Arsenal replaced Tottenham in the football league and coincidentally the club parrot at Tottenham FC died at the same time....
The phrase "back to square one" comes from when radio commentators used a chart from the radio times to explain which part of the field the ball was in. When the ball went all the way back to the end of the pitch the commentators were known to say the phrase.

Until crouch took his crown fatty foulkes was englads tallest ever player:-
Peter Crouch's appearance against USA, 28 May 2005, makes Crouch the tallest player ever to star for England, standing at a proud 6ft 7in. Many thanks to reader Bob Dooley for bringing this to our attention.
Reader Bazza Wright also brought to our attention a story, "Fat Sportsmen," in the Observer Sport Monthly, 6 January 2002, which says Billy Foulke is also the tallest player to have worn an England shirt:
"At 6ft 6in 'Fatty' is the tallest footballer to have represented England. Although regarded as a freak show by many, Foulke was agile for his size and an expert penalty stopper. In the early 1900s, keepers didn't have to stay on the line for penalties, so as a kick was taken Foulke and his enormous bulk charged towards the penalty spot, putting opponents off."
