View Full Version : Estonia v England

Ive got a bad feeling about this game, the typical sort of side England underperform against.
Hearing Maclaren on the radio last night he doesn't exactly inspire confidence, he was bigging up Estonian saying it will be tough etc. I expect him to make suicidal tactical substitutions and f**ck up big time.
England look too short at 1/5 but the 13/2 about a 1-0 England victory looks like value to me.
What does anyone else reckon.

3 points is 3 points a win and i will be relieved, not happy just relieved!

I am already unhappy!

I can't see anything but a win tonight! Yeah, England have messed up recently but Estonia are very poor and it's a must win game! We'll win 3-0! tup:

5-0 at least against a side realistically that would have struggle to look good against the U-21 Slovakia side last night is what i expect..

I am sick of this new attitude of "No easy games and they are better than most think" drivel that Scotland managers spewed for years when playing piss ant countries..

We should hammer them... Anything less than 3-0 and over 20 shots on target will be shocking...

It's fooking Estonia ffs..

COME ON ENGLAND

I entirely agree. We shouldn't be looking to just beat them, we should be humiliating them.

If we have any potential to win anything and we want to rate ourselves as being within the top tier of teams then this type of game should not be anything other than a massacre.

The good news is that if we don't get 3 points tonight McClaren will surely have to go.

He's about as popular and expensive as the Olympic logo at present.

This opinion from you 2 surprises me. Have you not noticed that at international level teams very very rarely get hammered? Italy (the current world champions) only just beat the Faroa Islands the other day. Croatia who beat us don't forget only beat Estonia 1 nil the other day. These shite teams have 1 sole aim and that is to keep it as low scoring as possible. They will defend for 90 minutes with 10 and alot of times 11 men behind the ball and will be happy if they only lose 1 or 2 nil and will be elated if they sneak a 0-0 draw! It's hard work breaking down well trained and fit defences. I hope we score a hatfull of course but it's unlikely.

Did you watch the U-21s last night mate... They tried the flat back 11 and the young lads hit the wings and ripped em to death with pace power speed and the use of a footballing brain...

Croatia are no where near our standard when we play to form..

If England played Halifax what do you think the score would/should be cos that is about the standard of Estonia in real terms......

The English players are the best we have to offer and some are considered the top in their position in the world... No excuses allowed on this one for me mate...

I do see your thinking but for me we should hammer them..

Spoonhead
6th June 2007, 05:29 PM
In days gone by we would have hammered them. And your comparison is right about Halifax I'd say! All I can say though is on recent evidence, even **** teams very rarely get dicked by even the best teams. It's just a fact of modern international football! Expecting us to go out there and score loads is setting yourself up to be disapointed!
Didn't see the u21 game last night so can't comment!

this is the sort of game i'd always bet half time draw england full time. perenial slow starters in these kind of fixtures instead of high tempo take it to em ENGLISH approach. in the end of the dday we should be winning this extremely comfortably when you look at the wages and infrasturucture in our game, however they are the underdogs showing pride, it's the pride and passion we tend to lack imagine if we had that to go with a bit of skill to boot?

unlucky parrot, your argument for 1-0 made a lot of sense - tonight went way against form! it seems however that northern bloke has turned the corner, C&B top tipster, hope you backed 3-0 mate to end the losing streak!

Croatia 0 Russia 0 is a very useful result for us as well

Makes the whole group a lot tighter with Israel and Croatia at home and two matches against Russia...

Croatia 17
Israel 17
Russia 15
ENGLAND 14
Macedonia 7
Estonia 0
Andorra 0 (All played 7 except Israel who have played 8)

Like Skye, I listened on the wireless and it sounded as if we did well.

What a great idea of Maclarens to bring back Beckham!

I did the 1-0 too Parrot, and laid England at 1/5, and for there to be less than 2.5 goals, and yet Im happy to lose those bets.

Crouch had a good game last night HIS HEADING was good with neat flick ons a sharper Owen may have picked up on...Becks did well yet again even though he was crocked for most of the game...

A better performance all round but it was of course only Estonia and we did get caught short a couple of times....

Saying that you can only beat what is in front of you.... Still too many men behind the ball for England in my eyes... With 6 attacking players last night not including the two wing backs we only ever had a long ball option to start attacks which is dog ****...(technical term)

I wasn't overly happy with the performance but it was better i suppose...

Wins = success, success = confidence , confidence = attack minded skilful play ...

Lets hope we keep improving...

Wes Brown was poor, King was exposed as a wannabe international (not good enough IMHO), Owen isn't sharp enough yet and beckham should not do the drop deep role.

On the plus side, Bridge looked half decent and I would prefer him to Cole, the midfield looked more fluid with interchanges of position which allowed Lampard to have a better game and gave us a much improved shape going forward, Beckham shows that passing and crossing are 2 things that we have lacked for ages, Crouch did exactly what it says on the tin when up against defences that are vulnerable against target men and all in all I thought it was a more than satisfactory result. We didn't batter them but we looked pretty comfortable all the way through.
