You might have seen this featured on BBC. Anyway if you havn't its a website that is hoping to obtain 50,000 members to pay £35 each to buy a football club. Each member will have a say on things such as which club to buy, picking the team and which players to buy. I'v taken this bit from the site to make it a little more clear.
Buying the football club
The moment the football club is purchased, you will automatically become a member of its Industrial and Provident Society, owning an equal share and therefore having an equal say in the running of the football club. As soon MyFootballClub has received membership fees from 50,000, the process of identifying the best club to purchase on behalf of its members will begin.
Due diligence will begin with the club with most votes, and so on until the most suitable and feasible club is identified.
MyFootballClub will use the money raised by membership fees to purchase this football club. All shares purchased will be given to the club's Industrial and Provident Society. MyFootballClub members own this Industrial and Provident Society, and therefore own an equal share and have an equal say in the running of the football club.
Picking the team
You will vote on team selection and formation. You will also have a say in tactics, by voting for your preferred style of play and substitutions depending on match situations. The Head Coach will field the 11 players, formation and tactics chosen by MyFootballClub members.
To help your decision-making, the Head Coach and players will give regular video briefings. There will also be reports from the training ground and members can submit Opposition Scouting Reports.
Buying players
You will vote whether to approve or veto transfers in and out of the football club. You will also be able to suggest potential transfer targets and submit Player Scouting Reports.
Club finances
You will vote on how to allocate club funds, whether it’s on transfers, youth policy or the stadium. You will also vote on major club decisions, such as which kit manufacturer to use.
Criteria for choosing the club
51% or more of the football club shares can be bought with the Purchase Fund.
There is none, or a manageable debt.
The club has the potential to reach the Premiership.
At the moment Bradford City are in the top 15 clubs most voted for so far. How would you feel about a takeover such as this?
Will there ever be football democracy?
Is there any possibility it will be a success?
Prior to Macca signing and the Lawn investment i may have had differing views about this, if we could have fit the criteria of a manageable debt then i would have been happy with this takeover as at the time it looked gloomy. Now things are looking positive around Bradford i'd stay well clear of this.
Im not sure whether football democracy would work, especially in the picking of the team, it seems a little too much giving the members these kind of decisions.
The money would come in handy, but everything else that comes with it would be unwelcome in my opinion.
