I don't think it was the fact that Ledley King was picked before him but the fact that Man U reserve Wes Brown was preferred to him.

I personally would have King or Carragher before ego-boy Rio Ferdinand

Agreed, but for his injury problems, Ledley should be a regular for me in the national side.

MacClaren has proved what every fan knew that he wasn't up to the job but the FA took the cheap option . Hiddink should have got the job.

Probably the most underrated english player reminds me a lot of des walker its very rare anyone gets past him.JT and JC would be my pairing every time

Fair enough... JC thinks his form should guarantee him a regular slot and we all agree that McLaren is a useless ******... but at the end of the day JC is taking his ball home... there are plenty of players who will never wear the England shirt but would do so for pride alone....

...Squad player or not, he should do it for England!

Agree to a point Clayton and Carragher has said that in the event of an injury crisis he would be available but you can see his point when you see reserves like Wes Brown getting selected in front of you ffs. Carragher has starred in the Champions league and never actually let down England despite being messed about.

I think its more an indictment about his thoughts on MacClaren than the England shirt. Agree though that playing for your country should still be the highest honour

Carragher - very, very overrated, a good no-nonsense, solid defender - but at international level you need someone who can play a bit - his distribution has always been poor.....

I don't like Ferdinand, but you'd have to be daft to suggest that JC is better than Terry, Ferdinand, Woodgate or King.....Dawson is still young too and will probably be better in a year or two!!

Carraghers versatility has probably worked against him with him playing both full back, centr back and midfield during his career.

My choice would be Terry & King. If we're talking overrated i think Ferdinand is a prime example in my opinion, hes arrogant, egotistical , lacks the concentration for a top level centre back and tends to ball watch a lot .

Woodgate is a quality defender but totally unreliable purely because of his injury history although to be fair Ledley King does seem to get a lot of injuries
