So Simon Parker has been allowed to divulge the names of the as-yet secret trialists to all and sundry.

I've been doing a little digging in the obvious places and found the following about them...

Kyle Nix is an Australian born, 21 year old that has played and scored for England U17s. He has played two games in his career - as a league cup substitute for sheff utd. He started at Villa, moved to Sheffield and then was on loan at Barnsley. So, evidently one of the lads at Bramall Lane that Stuart knows and feels could do a job at this level.

Peter Leven is 23, Scottish and has been at Kilmarnock for three years after signing from Rangers. In those three years he has made 75 appearances and scored 6 goals. He left the club after choosing not to renew his contract but perhaps hasn't caught the eye of anyone as yet. Frankly, we maybe should be keeping him under wraps because he looks to me like he's got something about him and would do well in League Two, and above...the solution to the left wing?

So, they're the young pair and then there's the older, experienced head of Darren Williams. The 30 year old who has played for York, Cardiff, Hartlepool and Sunderland played 108 games for the Mackems in the Premiership and is able to operate anywhere along the back four and in midfield (according to wikipedia). Also linked to MKDons, Peterborough and York.

Well, those three look like they're what we've been asking for.

This patience lark is rewarding!

Very keen on Peter Leven, i hope we don't miss out on that one. Only started 20 games for Killie last year and very few the year before but started 29 times for them in 04-05. Maybe not their first choice left winger but the fact that he got offered a new contract at a Scottish Premiership club says he must have something to offer us in league 2.

Just been on a Kilmarnock forum and some Killie fans have made the following points about Leven:

Stengths:

* Dead ball specialist, is decent with free kicks/corners.
* Great left foot, can really pick out a pass.
* Can play central midfield or wide left and even left back in emergency situations.

Weaknesses:

* VERY slow.
* Not very brave.
* Doesn't really take fullbacks on.
* Is sometimes overweight.

That for me sounds like GOOD news, sounds very much like a left footed Nicky Summerbee, just what we have been missing.

couldnt agree more MB... the mentioned above sound real good signings at this level and if we can finally get some genuine width on the left we will be cooking with gas - as they say:D :D

It's said he's hoping to sign up a few of these trialists plus some loans - that with the squad we have should see us amongst the front runners.

I hope he signs more than 2-3 of the trailists like he said the oter day!

Phelan, Gate, Johnson, Leven and Evans are who I hope he signs, but obviously that will all depend on how much they impress Macca in training and during pre-season games! Leven would be a great signing though imo! tup:

So if Kilmarnock offered him a contract and we sign him that presumably means we have to pay some form of compensation.

The S.P.L. is a bizarre league as clubs go from the standards of premiership clubs all the way down to standard of L2. Terry Butcher has gone on record of saying that the budgets of Motherwell and Brentford are very similar.

All three of those players sound like they could be good moves.

I think the rules in Scotland is different though as Chris Porter went to Dundee (I think) from Oldham and they didn't have to pay compo as he moved to a Scottish club.

No the compensation rules do not count if the player moves to a foreign country.....Scotland is classed as as a foreign country!!
