What? Three weeks before the season starts and the majority of the team going through the pre season friendlies will be called A. Trialist?

pre season friendlies are to knock the team that will be playing the season into shape not pad the team out with players highly unlikely to feature again.

Maybe it is to get fans used to the fact that A Trialist's Cousins the 8 Loanee brothers will be making up the majority of the side again next season.

I despair at what some people will disguise or perscieve as good news to justify unfounded optimism :(

No mate that wasn't the question. the question was, is it a good news to be at the point where we are i.e the eve of the pre season friendlies, with the squad in hand? Yes or No

Yes, see whats on offer and what they are like before you sign somebody you might regret later. Its called managing within a budget.

In an ideal world - the world where we didn't get relegated, didnt sack our manager and didnt have the financial problems that we had, then NO it's not a good situation to be in before pre season. To say that we should now be going into our first game on Monday with a team full of signed up players who can already read each others game is ridiculous. Players won't commit to a club if they don't know who thier manager and mentor will be. They also know the history of the club and will want some financial security to ensure that they are not out of a job before the season starts. Unfortunately, our pre season began when we appointed our new manager and investor only last month, so to actually have 9 trialists at such an early stage is good news. So YES, I'm pleased that we can actually have 11 players on the pitch on Monday, regardless of wether they are fully signed up or not.

Having studied most of the other team's squads in detail including the much talked about Peterborough United FC, it seems they are nearly all the same - having maybe 15/16 players on their books now with trialists looking to make the numbers up - thats footie at this level
We seem no different but we do already look on paper to have a squad with plenty of quality - given we will be signing 3 or more trialists and a few loans then I would say we have to be very optimistic of a quick return to League 1.
I expect Shrewsbury to be front runners again as well as the Posh with Brentford and ourselves.

Yes... a very good position - otherwise its akin to buying a car without taking it for a test drive, buying an item of clothing wothout trying it on/seeing it, or buying ahouse without getting a survery????
