Great memories, they stuffed us 4-2 that day, just a few months after we'd thrashed em 5-0 at Villa Park in the Simod Cup jump:
I remember the away fixture the best though, 7k City fans travelled to Villa Park on double deckers ect... We got beat 1-0 with a goal courtesy of a young man called Platt they'd signed from Crewe ;)
He ghosted in from midfield to plant a header past Tommo, a sign of things to come from the young Platt!
I also remember the Villa fans taunting us after the game through them executive box windows only for the City fans to start coining them! jump:
Happy days tup:

What's that a very very very ordinary player making a pile of cash on the back of a last minute England winner?

There are hundreds of far far far far far better footballers never got or came close to getting the International caps or making the living out of the game that Platt did. One prime example being our current manager.
It's like Lampard nowadays. Gets the plaudits without being much good. I suppose if you jave an eye for the goal then it doesn't really matter that technically you are shite, it's what the game's all about after all.
You look at Platt's career and pick up a spell where he was an outstanding footballer that had everyone foaming at the mouth. You can't, because he wasn't that good. He couldn't pass, had no pace and was always moved on from the big clubs he played for.
Fair play to him, he has made a few million from being ordinary, you can't begrudge anyone that.

Thats true but I doubt any of them could match Platts scoring record that stood up well against the top strikers of the time...as we know scoring midfielders are like rocking horse shite, especially at International level!

That's very true, he's so far up the England all time scores list he must walk round with a permanent nosebleed. So hats off. He still wasn't much of a footballer though.

No, but he kept Carlton Palmer out of the team for a while so he'll do for me! ;)

Platt was a good box to box player who scored lots of goals and was very fit. How many **** players from England played in Italy in the 1990's? None!

Waddle, Barnes, Gazza, Ince - all around in the early nineties. The problem wasn't the availability of players it was the selection of the shittest ones by the manager. Carlton Palmer, England International, sounds like a comedy horror.

Gazza had his long injury lay off at that time - and Ince was going through his injury prone spell too - the players available to play in midfield weren't as good as you think back then.....Palmer and Thomas were about as good as it were in fairness to Taylor!!
