Loach - 5.5 - didn't look confident today, flapped, dropped crosses, was very lucky at times.
Starosta - 7 - the better of our defenders, had his best game for us in my opinion.
Wethers - 6 - poor, I think he needs a rest, gets caught too often
Clarke - 6 - what was he thinking???
Heckingbottom - 6 - better than in recent games
Daley - 4 - didn't look interested at all
Bullock - 6 - battled as usual but was fairly ineffective
Johnson - 7 - I thought he had a decent game, got stuck in and played soem decent balls
Nix - 5 - poor game today
Thorne - 7 - MOTM again in my opinion, why was he subbed?
Topp - 6.5 - played well, gets himself about abit and has a great touch.

Topp won man of the match.....wat a joke! Im not that keen on willy topp, he is a decent player but all the fans seem to love him when in all fairness, he hasnt done much except show the odd fancy touch and bit of skill. I think the fans are looking at him through rose tinteed glasses, give it anotheer 5 matches when he still hasnt scored for us and the novelty will have worn off.
For me today, 25% of the time Topp was likee bambi on ice, 25% of the time he did well and 50%of the time he either lost the ball, picked the wrong pass, or was too reluctant to pass the ball and the move broke down. He hogs the ball way too much imo. I think Thorne is getting better and better and looks dangerous, to me, topp doesnt really look like scoring. Id like to see Brown start the next match with Thorne, because when we are only scoring 1 goal at home, its not enough.Dont get me wrong, i think Topp is dangerous, but he isnt as good as eveeryone seems to think.
I dont like Loach either, he was so clumsy today it was untrue and all he does is have a go at the other players, hes got an attitude problem. for example, he tried kicking the ball to Nix, it went straight out of play, Nix held his arms up and shouted 'Come on' or whatever, and Loach Held his arms up and shouted 'What?' Like it wasnt his fault!

Man of the match on the whole pitch for me was Perkins for them (the little blonde lad) he was a very good player and really quick

Topp is so far in front of most of the other players, apart from Thorne and maybe Nix on a good day - no wonder he lost the ball or seemed reluctant to pass the thing.
EJ is no midfield player but obviously McCall thinks the sun shines out of his butt.
Loach was not helped by Tweedledum and Tweedledee in front of him.
Good to hear all the opinions and see how we look at players differently.

Perkins should have been deadlegged - instead our lot just stood off him making him look even better.

i didnt think EJ did too badly today, its just that he is not a very good tackler at all, but he is easily one of the best passers of the ball in the team. He would be better just behind the front two.
Yeah topp is a good player technically, but we need forwards that can score and i really cant see him ever being a prolific goalscorer. I like Brown because of the effort he seems to put in, and the passion he seems to have. He might not be as good a player teechnically as topp but id still give him the chance in the next game. We have lost the last two on the bounce, something has to change.

Loach - 6 ... made one outstanding save but otherwise the own goal seemed to knock the confidence out of him
Heckers - 5 ... poor, will he ever learn to cross properly?
Starosta - 7 ... Best game so far looked good
Weathers - 5 ... Poor and shakey again
Clarke - 6 ... Horrible error but otherwise was alright, ref gave him absolutely nothing
Daley - 1 ... Never passes just ballons shots over or loses the ball. SHITE.
Nix 5 - Was poor on the left but towards the end when he drifted inside more looked more effective
EJ - 6.5 ... Had a good peformance on the whole
Bolloks - 5 ... He was on the pitch?? Played some good stuff but for the other 80ish minutes was no-where to be seen
Topp - 7 ... Quality, knows when to pass (contrary to CDIT86's veiw) and does and can... add to that his numerous close attempts on goal
Thorne - 6.5 ... Looked a bit jaded but did well
Subs
JoCo - 7... Made things happen with some intellegent runs and passes
Bazza - 6 ... Solidly average
Brown - Not enough time
Stuart - 5
Ref - 7.5 Did well in trying to let the game flow but missed some poor fouls a lot, also for their 1st he played advantage to us daley lost it a second later (suprise?) and he forgot to give us a free kick!!

Loach 5.5 a bit Jeckyll & Hyde
Hecky 6
Clarke 5
Wetherall 5
Sarosta 7 getting better each game.
Nix 5 - poor but doesn't give up
Johnson 7.5 MOM for me. Excellent second half.
Bullock 6.5 Good first half, not so good in second.
Daley 4 - poor and doesn't care. - Shooting is the worst I've ecer seen at VP.
Thorne 7 - quality player -
Topp 6.5 - TNT partnership is excellent looked really dangerou until they scored.
Dodgy subs. Daley had to come off, and I can understand Barry coming n for a tiring Topp, but why take Thorne off? I'm afraid that I can only see Brown being useful when teams are chasing the game against us. Rather see Medley.

Yes and he was signed from Morecambe in the Jan window for a nominal fee by Rochdale according to a Morecambe fan on the OMB. Bullock and EJ looked very poor in comparison - when was the last time we have seen one of our midfielders dominate a game for the majority of the game like that?

The stats show without EJ in midfield we gain more points - he is a luxury a player learning the role who we cannot afford - we needed a tackler today and some one who could put the foot on the ball - he and Bullock did neither. Until Stuart sorts the midfield (though it is a bigger job than that - defence etc) we will not make progress.
Agree and would peresevere with Topp and Brown - cannot wait until they score at VP

If we would have had Beckham instead of Preston when he was on loan....there would hea been people on here saying he is ****. The fact is, is you are a player of quality, you only perform to the standard of the others in your team.
When I was at the Hereford game and Willy made his debut, I saw him make a pass that 99% of championship/premiership players would have snapped up. Instead - our player (I think it was Rhodes or Phelan) got it completely wrong. He expected it to feet instead of running into space where Willy passed. Ok, maybe we are seeing Willy with rose tinted glasses, but so is Stuart, Paul Topping, Julian Rhodes and Mark Lawn. Or maybe its the simple fact that the rest of the team (at this point circa 16th position in the bottom league) aren't good enough for a creative player? Lets face it, the last creative player we had in our team was another foriegn striker(from Italy), who 6 years ago was also a stand out talent who got frustrated with the unskilled around him.

Daley, Nix & Johnson didn't show up at all. Waste of space.
Time for a change.
However it is great to see a proper footballer in Billy Topp in the C&A.

Gregg Abbott?.....Stuart McCall?
I've said this for months....why cant we get a midfield general in the image of those above? :(

Loach 6 confidence shot by the 2 clowns in front of him
Hecky 6 improved as game went on
Clarke 3 slow and cumbersome against the Dale attack
Wetherall 3 even lost out in the aerial battle, his only strength usually, time for rest
Sarosta 6 got caught out but generally steady
Nix 4 worst game in a City shirt
Johnson 5 couple of good tackles but went missing
Bullock 6 on his own but ran out of steam
Daley 3 garbage again, needs dropping
Thorne 7 only chance of getting a goal
Topp 7 only one creating anything
Subs : Colbeck 6 Conlon 6 Brown not on long enough to judge, but Conlon worked hard
Management of team / subs 4
_ Why are the subs always like for like, change the tactics once in a while ffs. Could have taken Nix or Daley off and pushed Conlon upfront to support Thorne and Topp.
Rest Wethers as i suggested 2 weeks ago and give TJ a run out. What did Williams do to deserve dropping? Get someone in to help Bullock in centre midfield

Exactly Parrot ! What about Abbo coming as assistant to help Stuart - a little unfair on Jacobs I know - as you do not see what he does behind the scenes and we may see some reward next season. Just wished Stuart had gone for someone with more experience as his assistant.

Haha it makes me laugh howw everybody seems to love willy topp when he hasnt really done anything yet. People thought he was a world beater before we had even seen him play. He is a good player, but there is a reason why he is in league 2. A strikers job is to score and he doesnt look like an out and out goalscorer. I give it 5 games and when he still hasnt scored you will all be ripping into him.
It did make me laugh how thee rochdale fans also sang at willy topp though 'Wheres ya caravan, wheres ya caravan' haha

I think Willy his suffering by playing in a team below his level TBH :(
How many times does he have the ball at his feet, waiting for a winger to run into the gap but usually someone like Omar's stood on the touchline with his hands on his hips ffs!
I dont think Willy his an out and out goalscorer but I think we'd only see the best of him in a much better team and level than ours.

I noticed also we were playing balls to his ****ing head, i was pissed off, we left with 10 mins to go for a quick pint before my mate and his dad went to bulls.
Glad i missed the last goal!
OH WELL 3 games this season 3 DEFEATS :( i wontbother anymore

On the rochdale bench... we should buy him back! was the most underrated player ever ... yer he had a bit of weight but that didn't hinder him too much

Loach 6 - Looked shakey in the first half but a lot of that was lack of confidence in his defence... much better second half coming for crosses and a wonder save.
Hecky 6 - His best game for weeks... about 60 - 40 to him in his tussles with the gump.
Clarke 6 - The own goal aside I thought he did OK... didn't give thorpe a lot freedom.
Wetherall 4 - Oh dear!!.. apart from gifting them the opportunity for the second Dale goal he played far to deep and just doesn't have the pace to get back.
Sarosta 5 - Sorry I'm not a fan at all.. bring back williams.
Nix 6 - Thought he was ok... battled first to last but didn't have much around him.
Johnson 6 - Did OK on his return.. won a lot of ball but his distribution let him down
Bullock 5 - Worst game for me.. conspicuous by his absence in the middle.
Daley 4 - F&%$^g waste of F*£&£"#g space
Thorne 7 - Gets better every game.
Topp 8 - This lad is far too good for the khazi league but is unfortunately on a different wavelength to the rest of our players... strong, mobile and clever he would be better playing off Conlon but then we wouldn't have Thorne's goals.

Maybe we should just go 4-3-3 home and away with Conlon, Thorne and Topp leading the way - Grandad Wethers on the bench with Sarosta, EJohnson( sub keeper), Evans and Daley / Brown
I'd go for
Loach
Hecky Moncur Clarke Williams
Nix Bullock Penford
Conlon Thorne Topp
Sarosta has done okay but sits off opposing players too much - get a fekin tackle in - I know Williams would even if he's a bit slower.
Macca Ha Ha Ha
17th February 2008, 05:09 PM
Bower and Clarke could be next seasons defensive pair with Grandad on the bench.
