....a sensible post on the OMB!

Think Jose has hit the nail on the head in that post on how things are at the moment down at VP.

I dont know what the answer is regarding the ownership of VP?

Part of me wants us to fcuk off and leave the Gibbs with a huge rotting stadium in the middle of Bradistan....

....But the other part of me wants us to stay at our spiritual home, especially with the emotional baggage it now carries after the fire.:(

I am acutely aware that the discussion about this has been going on since 2004, that discussions with the council have happened albeit sporadically since 2004, and that it is part of the vision and agenda of something called the Trust. Perhaps those who wish to try and take forward a community ownership scheme would wish to join up and put some input into this, or perhaps not. Either way it is not new topic of discussion merely someone has decided to be a bit mor publically vocal about it.

Lobby the council all you like but without a plan or proposal they will be unlikely to act upon any requests to do the purchasing.

The Shay is owned by a community ownership vehicle, which is largely funded by the council or was at the outset but now runs itself as a not for profit organisation which rents the ground to HTFC and HRLAFC, at a rate far lower than ours albeit the Shay is hardly the same size as Valley parade.

Without wanting to do down the sentiment of Jose's post, perhaps the energy is best channelled via an organisation of fans in taking forward a serious bid to buy back the ground from GG. My own view is that it would be best done through the Trus, albeit the COV would be a separate entity to any of the involved parties, ie Club, Council, Trust etc etc.

Does this Jose dude have inside knowledge about players being signed on pre contracts as he is stating this is fact.....or is it his assumption of the situation.
To me just because he is saying things are fact dont actually mean it is so.
Whats his sauce is the phrase I believe.(read it again now and see that he says a "well placed source"..............Jimmy and Chuckle have those also I believe.)

He's seriously suggesting we pay Gibb £1 Million a year? That's three times as much as I thought we were paying. jawdrop:

To be fair, reading between the lines! Rhodes said in the paper or to the press not long since that the Club has to find in the region of £1.4m to cover overheads including rent before anything else. Maybe he is just putting two and two together and coming up with 12 rather than 4! ;)

It only wrecks credability if YOU DEFINTELY KNOW that we are paying around 1/3 of a million for the ground and associated costs, i.e. you have seen the rental agreement/bank drafts/CVA.

If you have not seen any of these documents first hand it doesnt ruin his/her credibility at all, (s)he is saying that, all in, including ancilliary costs we have outgoings of 1.35mil a year. If you know otherwise then yes credibility wrecked, if you have via hearsay heard otherwise then credibility is fully in tact.

I personally however welcome structured intelligent argument of this sort on forums rather than doom and gloom circumstancial tabloidesque riposte! But then I guess that makes me in the minority down at valley parade. Roll on the next X-Factor so half the crowd have something to talk about rather than making up negative unsubtsantiated vitriol about the club.

I can confidently say that the rent is not £1million, and I say that without being pedantic and saying it is £999,999! The vast majority are well aware that the rent is nowhere near that figure, otherwise I would have expected an uproar and a call for action from the fans far sooner seeing as that kind of outlay would pretty much kill us in half a season.

I agree with Jose's point, hence I put this:

I am acutely aware that the discussion about this has been going on since 2004, that discussions with the council have happened albeit sporadically since 2004, and that it is part of the vision and agenda of something called the Trust. I remember going to the Council back in 04 amid the crisis and trying to discuss a way forward in making Valley Parade a Beacon of the Community, owned by a Community Ownership Vehicle funded in the main by the council to provide for the buy-back from Gibb, and then run as a not-for-profit organisation.

It is the only way I can see that the fans could be satisfied that the ground was in safe ownership. Private ownership has its pitfalls for the fans albeit Mr Gibb has been a pretty reasonable landlord so far.

SO, what say you all?

I thought the £300 k for the renting of the ground was a figure that was banded about br JR in some article - maybe well wrong - some time back.

The council have had a windfall ala the airport - they could purchase the ground and let the club buy it back on a lower term rental purchase agreement - as long as it protected their investment from inflation and provided a small return. At the same time they could use it for council / community matters for a reduced fees as part of the agreement with the club too.

It would not take a huge part of the windfall and they would get it back - providing the cub traded which is more likely with a lower rent.

It is election time again for councils is it not. Now is the time to get promises?

The rent is £300k per annum and this has been said publicly by Julian Rhodes countless times, short memories some people have...................

Oh and it costs
£15k per week to run Valley Parade and that is just running costs ie: Gas,electric, rentals (office furniture etc) 2 council taxes on the ground and office block etc.................I thank you ....... :notworthy:

It is a good post but the only ay to make the council do something like this is as I have put in previous posts by telling them how to do it. Give them a watertight business plan for a community ownership vehicle and they would be unlikely to reject it out of hand. JUst simply tell them they need to do something and they will debate it for years to come.

So when are you all joining the Trust to swell the numbers behind an organisation that is willing to enter into the discussions with the council and work on a business plan to secure safe and affordable ground ownership?

£300,000 per annum for the rent of club shop on top aswell.

Surely the first step would be to buy the club shop back from provident? That would be far cheaper to buy back, yet the rent is the same that we pay GG for VP.
