Well done to the guy - showing a ruthless streak! For me it is more than just getting rid of deadwood - it says to players - I will not suffer fools (players not working hard on the field and to improve their skills). Any new recruit and existing player - now knows he has to give 100% for the cause.
Getting shut of EJ means that he will have released some significant wages - that can be put attracting another a player who can do a job for us and give us better value for money.
EJ while he seems a decent chap - because he had played for MAN U a prem team - hoodwinked Todd to commiting too much of the clubs money. He is a little injury prone - never scored the goals as a striker he was brought in to do and as a midfielder - for me struggled - our results with him in the team would suggest that. I bet Crewe and Barnsley are now glad they did not sign him. Good luck to him.
Evans - has been a complete waste of wages this season.
Williams - for me has not cut the mustard in an already leaden foot defence.
Rhodes - a little injury prone and goes missing at times - although he has some good attributes - he can cross a quality ball - something others appear not to do.
I think also Conlon and Hecky are luck to have been kept on or been given the opportunity to.
Also good luck to Penford and Bentham - who had to play the majority of times in struggling sides - which cannot have done much for their confidence.

Harsh on Williams - though i too would have got shut of him, up to the arrival of Starosta he was our most improved player after a poor start!!

Agree, he was one i wasn't sure about along with Conlon. I thought they'd both be offered new deals. Chuffed for Nix though he's deserved a new deal

Did anyone honestly expect such a severe culling? I certainly didn't. I thought maybe 5 or 6 might go but not 13.
I realise though looking at the list , a lot were fringe players who had to go in reality.

Following Lawn's recent comments I expected a lot to be kept on so was extremely shocked but extremely happy with this cull!!

It's quite exciting to see who will come in next season because a full squad re-vamp will happen. Exciting times ahead.

For some one with years of experience of higher divisions and the current one _ I would have expected more of him. He was shocking in the first half Saturday and contributed to both goals in some form or another. Get wide players with pace and he hangs on the shoulder of Wethers!!? He had a bad start and did improve but not up to what was required.
Starosta is a little raw and I would rather persevere with him (if we can get hold of him) - as he will improve defensively and he can get forward.

Yep - don't know why we never let Bentham have a decent run of games, especially when we needed someone like him in midfield, he was a great holding midfielder IMO who never was allowed to gain the consistancy he would have had if he'd been given more of a chance!
Penford had the talent and was a great passer of the ball, he again suffered from inconsistancy which a decent run in the team may have given him....
Sorry to see both go but at the end of the day you do have to be ruthless and they would probs only have been fringe players again, they did both have potential tho and whilst both had some forgettable games for City, they did always try and weren't lazy, good luck to both of em!!

I reckon McCall wants pace passion and power as much as skill - quite right as well in this division as we have seen - keeping the best all round players and a few younger ones leaves plenty of finance to sign the 6 or 7 first team players we really need to make a sustained promotion attempt.
