Is there any proof that any genuine City fans were waiting for a freebie? - Unlikely. No doubt some folk would go if someone else was prepared to pay for them but they are no more fans than the "Corporates" who go to Man Utd / Chelsea etc because a supplier hands them a ticket.

i understand what your saying but i can count on 2 hands the ex season ticket holders from last year and many a year who all got excited when they anounced the freebies,i bet we all know people like these ,there was no excuse on the planet to pass up 138 or 150 quid season tickets if you were a true fan.

"Corporates who go because a supplier hands them a ticket" - what's this BWWB, pot calling kettle black?
I remember sitting in posh seats at Sheffield United, Watford, Brentford, Fulham, Everton, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Sunderland all thanks to your "Corporate" friends. Who was it who upset the Japanese at Watford with his " I will lollow yew' quote?
