"When you go public, it opens up everybody else’s eyes and ears. I’ve done it myself, seeing a club linked with a player on Teletext and thinking ‘I didn’t know he was available’.
“Suddenly you have other teams interested who may not have been aware before. "

It may just be a throw-away coment, but come on.
Teletext ffs, i know tv's still have it but i dont think i'v used it since the late 90's!!

Rhodes & Lawn want to chip-in and send him on a crash internet course so he can get up to date news:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Aye, proper premiership glory boy me!

There's a big difference from quality international defenders and the likes we are going to come up against as well! Tell you what we'll go clone Baz Conlon so we have a team of 11 bald-headed work-horses albeit they will be tall enough to compete against the giants of our league.

I bow down to your superior footballing knowledge, to hell with it eh, MCCALL OUT!

I see 'sumwuns' evading the question put to him!

Seems a fundamental flaw (or floor as you would say) in your identity claims has been unearthed, unveil yourself oh master of dislexia and deviant spelling!

Seeing as everyone has theories as to who this guy is/was - is anyone willing to throw some names in the hat?

p.s. your anti McCall vitriol is tiresome. The man showed marked improvement towards the end of the season, history has shown that manager's need time to settle and success and long periods of tenure generally go hand in hand.

I certainly can't see any evidence that he is inferior to any of the manager's who have stewarded the club since Jewell left the club. He has turned around gate revenue in spite of modest on pitch performance and should at least be afforded another season before his job security is called into question.

p.p.s see how much more convincing my argument sounds because of correct grammar and conventional spelling.

McCalls speeches, sound exactly the same as last years

What we have to realise is this a pretty dire part of the football year where news is in short supply for newspapers. Reporters will hounding clubs, players and managers - just to fill paper space - hence you see almost identical soundbites year - year at this time.

Stuart needs time and patience from us - and will get my support - as you can see he has the best interest of the club at heart and is moving us further away from the abyss we were looking down for some time before his arrival. I admit I have concern over the age of some of the players signed and we are linked with so far - which seem to be looking at a short term fix and we have had enough of them as a club. However if the results mean home performances improve and we shoot us up to the top end of the league - I am more than happy to eat my words of doubt.

McCall's recruiting of players at the start of last season was indeed disappointing - probably because he had little knowledge of lower-league players (or reserve/youth players in the Championship and Prem) and was therefore relying on recommendations.
Look at the players brought in later on in the season - Nicky Law, Ben Starosta, Lee Bullock, Scott Loach and TJ Moncur are a cut above the early-season loanees in my view and I think McCall was bringing in better players because he'd seen more lower league games and reserve games and was better able to judge players. Do you agree or do you think the players signed later in the season like Bullock and Loach were useless?
As for non-use of tactics... I saw us play games during last season with a diamond midfield, as well as straightforward 4-5-1 and 4-4-2 line-ups. What did you think about the tactics against Rotherham at home red book? Any comments?

Well said, several very valid points there, he did show signs of improvement as the season went on and the calibre of players coming in did improve

Spot on!

The retained list was ****ed up no-end imo, and releasing certain players 'on recommendation' set the team back. Though critisised for different reasons neither BMW or to a lesser extent Schuey should have been released, both were more than equiped to do the job our midfield failed to do last season.

valid points, yes nicky law was a decent loan signing has was loach, moncur was not a league 2 stopper ,but what im trying to say is we need to move further along than just short term fixes,we need players on contracts that belong to bradford city not some one else,im scared that chesterfield, lincon and brentford are recruiting "league2 type players that you need to be competative, its not rocket science,we need height and pace at the back, midfield and centre forward, last year that wasnt addressed this season it still hasent been, granted its early, but moores not coming, graem lee is a clone of weatherhall:slow, brandons a clone of nix, beckets a clone of conlon, boulding isnt the player people are making out,9 of his goals were scored from the spot plus hes 32?

Devil's Advocate

OK, we sign league 2 players, sign not loan, that means probably more than a year's contract, which doesn't quite work with our ambition of promotion to league 1 cos surely league 2 players won't be good enough for league 1.

I think you are just having a pre-season panic. Relax, it will all be alright!

Brandon might be a Nix clone but hes been performing in a higher League so therefore the quality has risen, same with Arnisonwe signed players last year from higher divisions ie heckonbottom, phelen, thorne, plus various loan players but we still finnished 16points off the play offs???? i understand your point but answer this " how did stockport, peterboro,mk dons and hereford gain promtion?? answer by asembling a team equipped to the rigours of 46 games of league 2 football.tall and pacey at the back, tall and athletic in midfield and they all had youth and plenty of legs up front, thats our blue print we should be coppying, maaca has had 1 full season ok,but he said last xmas his recruitng had started then for this year,he knows wat he needs etc for this league, well how come wat he thinks he needs is so so differant to the teams i mentioned above?

You can have Lee as a Wethers clone. Nix is a left midfielder/attacking central player - Brandons a right sided midfielder who can play upfront(on the left if he has to). Becketts a goal scorer - Conlons a builder.
Boulding scored 25 goals last season of which 4 were penalties, granted a freak achievement by his previous low scoring tallies, but thats not to say he wont do it again/get more in a team challenging for promotion as we will be. And though i'd (like you) rather see younger players coming in, 32 is hardly ancient!!

I'll give you Thorne (first 2 months injured) & Hecky but come on, Phelan was out of Evertons juniors and was always either one for the future or a fringe player.
Nix came from nowhere and proved himself more than adequate.
I agree we started very slowly but after Xmas there was a distinct improvement and we didn't finish too far away the last play off spot which in october looked a million miles away.

I do agree that i would rather have contracted players rather than a raft of loanees and so far we have signed players on contracts

Fair enough but at least wait till hes signed all his players before condemning the season totally. Theres still 6 weeks till the first game.

Remember Jagger only signed Lee Mills just before the season started, he had an average record and i don't remember anybody whooping and hollering with joy at his signing but what a signing it was that season.
