Thinking back to saturday, was anyone else concerned about the quality of the playing surface? - the goal area at the Kop End was looking less than pristine and the penalty spot non existent bar a rutted hole!
You would hope that with the extra investment made in the squad, that the pitch itself would also be a priority - do we have a groundsman anymore or does some company / council look after it?

Nope I agree, just couldn't be arsed to reply! ;)

There were patches all over that looked dry, considering all the rain we've had perhaps they've had it under covers too long.

as a groundsman of 35 years, the pitch at vp is one of the worst in the league. i've worked on it many years ago, when vp was built, the playing area was tipped level with council rubbish, as well as builders rubble, drainage work a few years ago saw matresses, prams and lumps of concrete being pulled up, because of the damage this caused, richmond refused to pay the contractors efg. [company laid the pitch at bolton] £10,000. city are blacklisted with the trade bodies, only the smaller firms will do work at vp and really the whole area needs taking out to a depth of around a metre, and then properly laying.
in fairness, we don't own the ground and we don't have the cosy relationship with the council, over £250,000 work done there, no doubt all paid for!!!.
the average amount spent on pitches in the fl is £25.000 pa, not including wages, last amount i saw for vp was £2800!!!!

heck it's worse than we thought then! - get bad winter and we'll be seeing City playing on a sandy beach at VP i reckon - I might ask the club a few questions about this.

I thought it looked ok from the lofty heights of Bbar on Saturday and heard a few comment on how well it looked!!

and over the last few years compared to most its stood up well!!

True but the penalty area at the kop end was in poor condition - you could not miss the patches and bumps - but i suppose from the TT it could be a difficult angle to absorb everything lol

I listened to the match on Radio Leeds and Derm commented on how well he thought the pitch looked.

We all know that what is on the surface can flatter to deceive:)
