I am sure they will all be disappointed at the narrow defeat today and Thorney missing a pen (Boulding to take the next one?) - could not listen to the commentary today so not really sure how we competed but sounds to have been a decent game (fek i sound like the lost boy now!!!!!!!!!)

Onto the L666s match now then which I doubt we'll get anything from as a few players will get a breather - more importantly the next league match at home v Exeter City - sounds exciting .............................

I knew city would loose this weekend, We do it all the time - We under estimate these teams and turn up expecting to roll them over - this was one of two cup finals for them this season and they got what they wanted.

Aldershot were excellent last season and seem to be pretty solid looking so I'd say they could be play off contenders - we seemed to be well in the game today as far as goals go - i know what you mean though and we do not want to see a repeat of last season ffs!

I wasn't that impressed with Aldershot, we didn't really play that well and they passed it about quite well, but they created maybe two or three decent chances, maximum. One of which was scored about 20 seconds after Thorne missed the pen and half the team were running back down to the pitch.

You have to realise that their first and last goals were both absolute thunderbolts that we couldn't really do much about.

I thought we carved out at least three much clearer chances, and that's on top of the goals we scored and the penalty we missed. Their defence looked very dodgy and their keeper bailed them out with two good saves from Thorne and a bungled clearance from a suicide backpass that Daley nearly pounced on.

Yeah we probably weren't as clinical as we could have been but I'd say we were pretty unlucky today. I don't think we underestimated them.

One concern obviously is that if we're gunning for promotion then we need to take points that are put on a bit of a platter, like today, but I'm not that fussed. Apart from the fact that we spent 5 hrs travelling down to get told to 'fack off' by the locals at every available oppurtunity.

I agree with you, they pinged it about quite well, and I bet that they won't score two goals like that in a game again for an awful long time, not making excuses for anybody but it was bloody hot down there today.

Also I had a go at their defence but one of their defenders made probably the best challenge I've seen for a long time to deny Daley at one point. It was a last man, all or nothing challenge as I'm pretty sure Omar would have smashed it a milisecond later. He probably should have done it before in all honesty. Daley had a pretty poor game.

Yep it was bloody hot although when we went down the side in the open air it was a lot cooler than in that stand... think it had some sort of greenhouse effect going on. I was sweating buckets.

Sounded like the wingers never got into it today -- we may have 2 top strikers but they need service to do there job -- maybe loosing Clarky had a big effect on the result or did Bowser do a good job

Clarke was a big loss obviously. Bowser did a job but his distribution as always was pretty abysmal and his lack of pace meant he got caught out a few times.

The wingers were both poor today, they both had oppurtunities to make stuff happen and both failed a few times. Colbeck won the penalty and Daley made a couple of surging runs but apart from that there wasn't much to shout about. For the first time today from the games I've seen the CM's had a better game than the wingers. That's not to say the CM's have been bad up until this point, just the wingers have had reasonably good games.

McLaren and Bullock both played well I thought, they didn't have much of the ball but they worked hard to make sure Aldershot didn't utilise it as they would have liked, and when they did put their foot on the ball they usually used it well. A well taken goal apiece from both too. I thought Lee and Evans had solid games.

Thorne wasn't great to be honest which would be my only other gripe, but he will know that and I can't really have much of a go at him after the start he's made. Other than that we were steady away across the field. Noone had a nightmare at least.

Our next league game is on Saturday at Port Vale!!

Which'll be another tough one. We need to bounce back quickly if we're going to challenge this year imo! Once you get into the habbit of losing it's very hard to get out of, as we've learned over the last few years!

What matters now Is how we bounce back in our next league game at Port Vale.

I predicted we'd lose down at Aldershot as it was always gonna be a tough game against a team who haven't lost many in the last few seasons. A draw would have been a cracking result for us but the football Gods deemed otherwise! :(

Port Vale will be another stern test but Im pretty confident of us getting a result down there in one of our "lucky" grounds ;)

Even If we lose we've started off better than most expected and im sure most fans who know owt about football know we do have a GOOD team this season, a team GOOD enough to win promotion.

Losing at Aldershot as done nothing to change my opinion on our chances this season and nor should it anyone elses.

City looked comfortable in the first half but with Clarke off and Lee heavily bandaged the defence fell apart in the second. When McCall took Boulding off and replaced him with Nix Aldershot decided to throw on an extra attacker and for the first time thought they could win it. It was, however, the first time I have seen the opposition score from our penalty (almost the same move!!!) and Daly should have buried the chance he had immediately before their winner.
