Awful! tdwn:
I know Macca doesn't like Bower but for ****s sake, our central defenders cost us the game today imo! Every time Clarke gets the ball I **** myself as he has the touch of a rapist! Lee was only marginally better, how he got Man Of The Match I don't know! They just both seem prone to mistakes and seem to piss about with it far too much! I'm starting to miss the days of Bower and Wethers! :(

The defense has gone from tight to leaky!

The central defence pairing is definitely not working and needs shaking up..Not sure what the answer is though..TJ alongside Lee perhaps with Arnie back at right back?..Lee and Clarke certainly win their fair share of headers but they are going to struggle playing together against anyone with pace like Simeon Jackson today..Lee awarded the sponsors MOTM was a terrible call..had to be Furman for me today MOTM

Bower is injured still so that is not an option - today was more down to not keeping posession and letting Gllingham run right through for both goals - bad defending as a team.

Their second was bad from front to back - Barry's failure to jump for an easy header, allowing a strong header forward from their cb cost us the points.

So were the static defence/midfield totally blameless?

Not at all!
Bazzy demonstrated in his finest fashion how to turn attack into defence though!!

I've not been sure about Clarke for a long time but Lee is starting to look just as bad. You can't ever say you are confident that we'll keep a clean sheet and we have no pace at the back, they make Wethers look like Usain Bolt. If you can get to see a clip of Hudders away in the cup watch the way their player drops a shoulder and then ghosts past Lee like he's not there and runs from near halfway to score, it's embarrasing and I mentioned it on the night of that game.
I don't like Moncur at right back but I think he'll be ok as a centre back. We had a similar scenario with Damian Stewart, horrible as a full back but great in central defence. With us leaking so many goals I wonder if McCall will have the bottle to drop 1 of the central pairing? Bower must be kicking himself, first he can't get in the team, then he gets injured. He played really well at Leeds away and usually has quite good vision and positioning, i'd like to see him back in the team.

Have to agree with the sentiments here.
Lee has looked utterly dreadful recently, encapsuled by today's horrendous showing, Clarke is a ropey clumsy oaf, not even god knows what he was doing for the second goal.

look, everyone will say i have the benefit of hindsight but i am not suprised about shaky performances where clarke is concerned. i have always thought he looks clumsy and have said in posts, well i think i did. having said that others are culpable too and i am quite shocked at how lee is apparently underperforming as he came with quite a rep. maybe its a confidence thing, both C Halves are below par and its compounding the situation. looks like bower is hardly flavour of the month though so unlikely he'll get a chance to come in but maybe things need a freshen up?
are our midfield still not giving the defence any cover either btw?

Clarke is a liability and it looks like its beginning to cost us.
Ever since Bury away last year when a friend pointed out how he grapples with defenders and is incredibly clumbsy at half time. We all know whatt happened in that second half.
I saw him v rochdale and he was good.
I'd drop the fellow as it sounds like hes not learning from mistakes.

What concerns me is that Topp has been bombed due to poor form in matches and training, yet he continues to pick under performing centre halves.

Or maybe we don't have anyone to replace them:rolleyes::rolleyes: Topp as not played because players in front of him have performed better have we got two better center halves in our squad ?

The 2 central defenders have been crap for weeks now, always look nervous! I'd drop clarke!

Agree
Our team does not work as hard off the ball - closing players down - running into space - once again a inept second half performance at home and this time against 10 men. The midfield is still not strong enough - fails to create enough chances and leaves a lot to be desired defending for the full 90 mins. The defence at the moment is fragile to say the least - another Huddersfield - down the middle - parting of the red sea-esque defending! Stuart promised leaders all over the team last season - but I have yet to spot one apart from Evans! The youngsters Moncur and O'Brien did Ok - thought Furman seemed to be the only one with any energy!
Looks like we need additions in Jan or via loans.
