Just before half-time my daughter was pestering me to go to the kiosk for some food, so after 5 minutes of wining in my ear i took her to get some food, as we we're stood in the queue I heard the roar and City had scored. On getting her food and a cup of coffee for myself, we went and stood against the wall where the shelfs are.
I still didn't know who had scored the goal, so i asked a lad that had just walked in underneath the kop and he said in a broad southern accent ''Joe Colbeck and it was a cracking goal.''
I got talking to him and i said 'you must have been darn sarf along time to have an accent like that.' He told me he was born and bred in West Sussex, so i asked him how he became a City fan and he told me, that he got in to football at the age of 12 and wanted to follow a football team. To him the Man Ures, Arsenals or Liverpools we're not an option to him, unlike others darn sarf.
His gran was born in Bradford originally before she moved darn sarf, so he chose Bradford City as his team because of his grans roots up here and he has been to Valley Parade 8 times to see City and he has been to 22 away grounds darn sarf watching City.tup:
The lad had brought his mum along today, who is also a City fan now and he was saying, that they had to get up at 4.00am this morning and caught the 5.10am train to London and then up to Bradford. They will get home around 1.00am Sunday morning after a very long day of traveling and having spent a lot of money on the journey, top supporters in my opinion.jump:
He also went on to say two of his friends who are brothers support City and have been to a couple of games with him and the reason they follow city!!!
Their dad is a L33ds fan, so they wanted to piss him off. roflmao:clap:clap:
I told him about this site and that ED is based in Shoreham (He lives 20 minutes away from you Ed) and he is going to have a look on here tomorrow.Thats Chasser, Ed, ellebs Brighton friend and this lad all from West Sussex, so you might be able to get a car full, for the games up around London if you can arrange it.tup:
I love stories like this lads and i would never have known he existed if i had not made conversation with him.tup:

Top effort by the lad.....
It's one of them strange kind of stories - something a bit different but perhaps in the same ball park is when you're an exiled Bantams and you come across other Bantams living in your neck of the woods.
A couple of years ago I was in Hexham (small market town - similar to Skipton about 25 miles west of Newcastle heading towards Carlisle) one Saturday afternoon with the wife and kids on the same day that City had an away game at Yeovil. My dad and brother were at the game as as i'd had no texts i assumed that by 4-50pm the game had ended 0-0 (by which time we were in hexham Tesco's) I then recieved a text which i assumed would be confirmation of full time but instead it read "Deano 1-0 last minute". I let out a half shout of "Yes!!!" and shouted over to my wife further down the aisle "Windass has scored". All of a sudden a fella with a beard walking past with his shopping basket stopped, looked at me and said "excuse me mate, did you say Windass has scored?" in a broad Yorkshire accent. It turned out that this guy had moved to Hexham a couple of years beforehand but was a lifelong City fan who just happened to be walking past me in Tesco's in a town pretty much in the middle of Hadrians Wall country 120 miles away from Bradford at the exact time that Windass had scored. I never got the guys name and after a handshake we went down seperate aisles pleased with an away win.

Its a funny old world Tyneside bantam, like you say in the middle of nowhere and if Windass had not scored, then that bloke or you would never have known one another existed.
For a few minutes you had a conversation with a total stranger, yet both of you had something in common, Bradford Citytup:

As much as i'd like to see some city games at VP, Right now it's just not financially viable.
It's some commitment to travel up to watch city from down here though - if you were to drive from here it's a good few hours also and trains well that's a sodding nightmare. Shoreham -> London Victoria -> Tube -> Kings Cross -> Leeds -> Bradford.

Its a trek and half to get up here from down there, but if there are any delays on the trains it would be even worse.

Good post jimmy, been to vp twice this season, I usually drive up & stay over,so I can have a few beers, Ive only once driven up & back down in a day, ( mcalls testimonial)
and it was a long day.
in early teens I used to :
9pm train to london victoria
11.35pm coach from london victoria coach station (national express £10.50 rtn)
7.30 ish arrive Bradford (depending on how many collection points)
rtn coach about 6.30pm, depending on time arrive back at london ,whether I got coach to brighton or train,
train is the best option but too expensive.

I think Zonn beats the locals home from London matches sometimes. Not bad going that!
