In Thorne & Boulding we have two quality players, but I feel they don't function that well as a partnership. We look a little lightweight, even though we are scoring goals.
I'm not saying Barry is a top drawer player, far from it. He does, however, have a nuisance value that keeps defenders occupied. I believe that the ball stays in the final third of the pitch a lot longer when Bazza is playing.
As we seem to be playing an increasing number of hit and hope high balls, then surely it makes sense to have a big, awkward lump in the firing line?
A Thorne / Conlon partnership served us pretty well in the second half of last season. I'd be inclined to go with these two with Boulding on the bench.
It will be interesting to see if they get a chance tomorrow night.
