View Full Version : Montegnée news

I was personally quite disappointed that the special section for Montegnée was taken away but I suppose, from a City point of view, they are history.
Anyhow, Paul T gave me some of the latest news which now belongs on General football as being nothing to do with Bradford City any more. I guess some people may still be interested though.
They had difficulties with gaining visas for a lot of their foreign students. This is now resolved and the squad is now going to get even stronger. The under 21 team's last 2 matches were a 7-0 away win and a 12-0 home win.
They are now in the business of signing players for a fee.
Players recommended to Bradford but not even considered are now in higher placed clubs, whether from Montegnée or just recommended by Paul as a professional scout.
Johnny Exantus, the 18 year-old big signing from New York Red Bulls, is now on trial in the Belgian top division after scoring hatfuls for RRFCM U-21s. Probably already valued in the millions.
Cameroonian, Dutch, all lost to City but we wouldn't want to complicate their life with Foreigners, eh?
RRFCM are supplying rival teams with really top notch kids. Too young for contracts but absolute top prospects. City fans won't be too happy about this.
Joey Spivak, an American who gains Irish citizenship in 3 months, will be scoring for better than Bradford City before too long.
And why did Topp sign for Bradford City to be seen on television sitting in the grandstands when Carlisle, Coventry or W Brom could have been options?
And who would like to bet against me saying that RRFCM will sign up with much more important partners than Bradford City?
I am more convinced than ever that we missed the boat, the plane and all forms of transport on this one. Good luck to Montegnée and Paul Topping, I say.

I agree Z,keep the news coming. I also think City for whatever reason were both short-sighted and possibly negligent in this partnership

They were recommended but City couldn't be bothered to take a look at any of them. Not one person went over there to check out the players or set up.

cheers for that. maybe it was a case of them being too big for city really, if they produce quite a few high calibre players the chances of them coming to us are pretty slim as they may well end up playing in far higher echelons. i think we can all hold our hands up and see what a good set up it is there and pretty groundbreaking. time will tell on this one i guess but it seems that with some of our 'touted' signings stuttering city won't even turn to their young players at club level, so no suprise they couldn't be arsed looking at a good youth development scheme abroad.

Something tells me that there won't be a right lot of Baggies fans cursing the fact that they weren't able to sign Topp when they see that he can't get into the Bradford City 1st team.

The bit you quote is purely my view.
I agree, it does not look good on Topp's CV that he was not picked for the Bradford City 4th division 1st team. Whether this is a correct reflection of his abilities remains to be seen.
I think a cool, possibly drizzly night in Grimsby could be the opportunity to try him out. I sense fatigue or persisting back problems for Thornio. Niggly ankle problems for Boulding. A bit of a gulf behind the front 2. A lack of pace, a lack of young legs, a lack of skill, a run of poor results and performances.
A winless Grimsby would really brick it against an attack-minded 4-3-3 with Topp in there. A front line of Boulding, Conlon and Topp would provide a mixture of all the qualities needed to trounce Grimsby. Probably won't happen though.
But there have been other threads on or about Topp. This was meant to be about the potential of a link-up with the Belgian connection, or the loss of it. For those still interested.

Cheers, Nigel, keep it coming. Send on my best to Paul as well, I hope he continues to come and at least read what we talk about on here. I liked his honesty and the fact he was willing to engage with us.
I note with interest the comment about complicating things with foreigners!

Those running City now do have business acumen and proven results / backgrounds - Aston Martin and Bentleys in the club carpark are a good indicator (whatever the critics might say) yet it does make you wonder what really went on with this deal - the production line of players over in Belguim seems to oooze with talent.

In my eyes it all seems too good to be true in Belgium, there must be more to the story than what Paul Topping has said by posting a few threads and comments on internet forums. Until Bradford let us know their side of the story we will never know why they have seeming let this great opportunity go, but there will be a reason for it.

I agree, it all seems too good, but 2 lads off here, Zonnebloem & Dutch Bantam have actually been over there and visited the place and interviewed Paul Topping on several occasions. He also willingly came on here and answered any question thrown at him however controversial.
The only information we haven't had is from Citys end which has been just about completely silent apart from a couple of prepared statements a lot of which held contradictory facts and information.
Anyway, whats done is done but i do have a feeling City have missed the boat with this and someone else will reap the benefit. Maybe it will all come out in the future.

I read a few of the threads on here when it started to go wrong with Montignée and what Paul Topping said in his thread, it was an upsetting read. We all knew this could have been a great opportunity, but surely so did the men that matter.
We don't yet know the full reason why it fell through, because we haven't fully heard from both parties. There may be a reason for that, but until we do I'd like to think there was a good reason why City chose to do what they did.
Reading the OP is like losing at Bullseye, after gambling all 8 of your 'Curry's special' prizes. We really need a pick me up on this board after some of the posts this week - Cue BantamTills.
At least our current form is better than Grimsby's tup:

I noticed Paul Topping was on here this morning. Nice to know he's still keeping in touch.

He made a lot of friends on here with his open & honest demeanour. A few met him up at Goals where the C&B football team played & He used to meet Mark Ellis up there.
