Is Arsene Wenger right to call Stoke cowards for the way they played against Arsenal. Is he not just deflecting away from his own teams frailties?

Remember the Red Card count under Wenger a few years ago was sky high with Viera the main culprit but amazingly Wenger didn't seem to think anything was wrong then (probably he didn't see it).

I think Stoke are totally justified to play to their strengths within the laws to combat an Arsenal side who could play them off the pitch. I didn't see the same tackles Wenger did , i saw a team showing commitment to compete with a superior footballing side.

Sometimes the team that wants it the most comes out on top -- It seems to happen over the past seasons down at VP :(

he's just being a grumpy olf french git who knows his team are really up against it this year.

I suppose he's made an over reaction to suggestions that his team are not brave enough and lack bottle.

That said, although I admire stokes pluck some of the tackles were OTT.

Typical frog and his foreign legion lacking any real bottle when the going gets tough, they wouldn't have lasted 2 mins back in the 70s....;)

I think he's trying to deflect the blame after his side couldn't compete with Stokes mental & physical strength.....when was the last time Arsenal won a trophy?

I think he's got it spot on...this comment in particular...

"When people say Arsenal didn't fancy it...what didn't they fancy? Getting tackled from behind?"

In a "fair" battle they can cut it, but they had no chance here. I think it's a shame that with the football they play that teams try and unsettle them with dirty tactics.

However you play to your strengths and Stoke, and in seasons past Bolton, have proved that they can get results against them this way. If Stoke tried to play football against them it would have been a Cricket score...

Nail on the head Lofty. It's up to the ref to make sure the games don't get out of hand if a side decides to adopt these tactics.

They play the most attractive football in the premier league and as such are kicked all over the field when they play the **** cloggers of the division, whilst i can see it from the point of view of teams like Stoke who can never compete football-wise its a shame that they employ such tactics in an over-the-top way - i might be wearing the cherry tints here but we never kicked our way to safety whilst in the Prem, we competed, but were never looked upon as a "dirty" team.....

I agree with that, Blackburn uner Hughes were a team that kicked the better sides off the field! I don't think it's particulary fair to play like that but I agree it's the referee's fault for not taking action! Look at what Hull have done, they play some lovely football and haven't resorted to such cheap tactics!

I thought the Delap challenge on Wallcot at the weekend was appauling!

The only "dirty" tackle I saw was the Shawcross one on Adebayor when he was off the field and got clattered from behind! :(

The rest were hard and fair, If Arsenal wish to win the Prem again they need to toughen up and stop been seen as softies who are easily rattled.

Can you Imagine Man Utd, Chelsea or Liverpool sucumbing to similar tactics?

I think there lies the problem why Arsenal wont win the League this season.

Like I said earlier, they would have know about it if they were playing the likes of Norman Hunter, Chopper Harris or Nobby Stiles in the 70s...

i honestly thought Walcott was just to quick for him whereas Shawcross did lunge at Adebayor

I don't remember Wenger moaning when Viera, Grimandi, Remi garde etc were clattering people left , right & centre

Thats fair comment mate - but the football Arsenal's under 11 juniors play is probably of better quality than some of the shite from that decade....

One of the things i like about being in the division were in is that its "real" football, where you can still (to an extent) play hard - but at the top level i'd rather see the skill on display from some of the finest technical players in the world than hatchet jobs by players punching above their weight for mediocre teams!!

What should Stoke do then?

Just roll over and let Arsenal knock 6 past em?

They can't compete with Arsenal financially off the pitch or skill wise on it so play to their strengths as a team and compete for every ball as physically as they can.

I doubt Arsene would have said owt if they'd had won, he's trying to blame Stoke because his multi-talented, foreign legion were "bullied" off the pitch by a team not in the same class as his own.

He should keep his mouth shut cos all he's doing his drawing attention to his teams weaknesses and other managers in the Prem and Europe will now know his team aren't up for a physical battle.

You Fcuking soft bastards, have you all forgotten about the 70s, 80s and 90s when tackles like those in the Stoke game were not even commented on, because it was the norm?

The media pc brigade have turned you all in to soft bastards, ''oooowww Bobby Campbell on ya fcuking head''.............. In those days if someone got tackled like that, they laughed and thought what a sissy tackle that was.

Remember the days when the centre forwards used to forearm smash the keeper in to the back of the net with the ball and the referee giving the goal, because the keeper was a soft bastardtup:

I don't condone violence but there was something pleasurable about seeing the likes of Mick Kennedy, Greg Abbott and Lee Duxbury putting it about in the midfield... added spice to a game for me.

Aye - them were't days.....:(

The point i was trying to make is that i pay my sky sports/Setanta subscription to see quality football i'm not going to see at our level, players like Rory fookin Delap don't fit into that bracket, i don't give a fook if its the only way Stoke can compete, i'm not a Stoke fan so don't give a ****, i get excited over watching a "meaty" tackle watching City - not some other team, if i'm watching "some other team" i'd prefer to be entertained by the football - we have the best of both worlds, something the fans of the premier league teams don't have!!

Like i mentioned before, we weren't a dirty team when we stayed up in the 1st season, neither are Hull or West Brom - teams who are actually enjoyable to watch.....

Seriously, i loved it in the 80's when Abbo and Denis Irwin had a running battle lasting about 5 seasons till Irwin went to Man Utd. Abbo then turned his attentions to ginger whinger Billy Askew at Hull. Great battles no quarter asked or given. Then came Mick Kennedy................!!!!!!

Your right Stoke are bang out of order maybe they should start playing nice pretty football to satisfy all the Sky subscribers :rolleyes: or maybe they don't give a fook what you think and continue to play and survive which is the main aim of that football club regardless of what you think about them tup:tup:tup:tup:

Why dont we imake the Prem "touch" football only that way the poor little loves wont even get their jersey's dirty, dont want to spoil all the Sky HD viewers enjoyment now, do we?
