Looks like an interesting fixture this one...a little suprised it's not one of the live games. Instead it has a 2pm kick off on Saturday.
There is a bit of controversy, the game is not all ticket and Spartans have increased their prices for the game by £3 to £12 (with an additional £1 to go into the main stand). The average attendances are about 600 but there is hell on now because the locals are not happy about the pay on the gate as they are not guaranteed entry unless they turn up early. I half considered it especially as one or two of the lads at work are Spartans supporters and Blyth is only up the road but i'm already on babysitting duties on saturday afternoon and brass is being saved for an away day at Rotherham in a couple of weeks. Keep your eye out, it has the makings of a good cup tie.

I'm a toon\Blue Star supporter and i'm going to the game. It's got a lot of interest going up here, 30 years since the great cup run of 78! They should be the last North East club left in the cup at the rate the season is going so far.

Is that when they played Wrexham at St. James's?
Are you also a Bantam we will follow? Or do you just have a strange liking for BCFC sites?

Blyth is a coastal town in Northumberland about 12 miles north of Newcastle. Although the vast majority of people there are NUFC supporters there is a fair amount of interest in Blyth Spartans and should they reach the conference (the are in Conference north - the same as Farsley) they would easily get crowds in excess of 1,000. They have a tidy little ground in Croft Park.
Although Blyth has had it's problems in the past (it had a bad reputation for drug problems) it has actually had a lot of money pumped into it. They have demolished one ot he troublesome council estates down at south beach and replacd it with a new housing estate (which unfortunately remains only 50 % finished as all building work has currently stopped) but they have also redeveloped the promenade at south beach which makes it a popular spot. It gets very busy on a summers weekends and evenings. It also has the best fish and chip shop in the North East. Well worth a visit if your ever in this neck of the woods.

Not 100% relevant, but one of the first games I went to see was a Blyth Spartans cup game at Elland Road. I think it was a replay against Hull that went to extra time in the early 80s? Anyone remember this?

I was in the north east for a week in October.. based in Beadnell but did a fair bit of touring.
Called in at Whitley bay and seaton sluice and saw the sign for Blyth so I drove through and visited the docks etc... gotta say, there's more life in Morecambe on a cold February Sunday.;)

Definatley a good achievement and more than we'll manage at home to shrewsbury this season.
What is the deal with their gorund though. Presumably the match was a 2pm k.o. because they dont have floodlights, or at least i didnt notice any.
I usually go to the odd Guiseley match who are a division below yet have floodlights. Even though the ground is alot more basic (especially as half of the main stand burnt down), than Blyth's. At what point do you need floodlights and would Blyth be prevented from being promoted without them.

They definately have floodlights at Croft park. I have absolutely no idea why they decided to kick off at 2pm. The Toon weren't playing so i doubt it would have been on the Police request and they had no need to avoid a similar kick off time to the Mags (most of the support are also NUFC supporters) and there seems to be no logical explanation for the 2pm kick off. Usually they kick off league games at 3pm.
