the excitement of the fa cup eh! - seems the 1st round does little to inspire people these days - unless it's a non league v league club.
Years back (old git i know lol) you could always guarantee a good crowd for the 1st round - even if you were down the bottom.

It's been in decline since Man U became the first prem side to devalue the competition by fielding weakened sides. And then pulling out of the cup in 2000 to enter the FIFA Club World Championship.
Then you have the likes of Dave Kitson when reading were in the prem saying that they did not give "two shits" about the cup.

I agree - this famous competition lost some of it's status through the selfish attitude of some big time charlies.

We have never been a big club and will never be...a big club. our rightful place is exactly where we are now.....4th division old money.;)..deal with it.

Perhaps.

But nothing is cast in stone.. If we hadn't had the entrepreneurship of the Richmand years... if we hadn't redeveloped the ground.. if we hadn't spent two seasons in the best league in the world.. then I'd agree with you.

As it is, we are seen by others as a 'big' club and our rightful place I reckon is at least top half league 1 and probable Championship contenders.
I see us on a par with the likes of Burnley, the Sheffield clubs and others who have now fallen from their once mighty stature... but this will only happen if we have the stabilty, drive and vision of a competetant leadership... and the devotion and expectation of a vibrant support.

Its a good attendance for a televised fa cup round 1 match against Northampton on a friday night

BUT

it makes me laugh that they say they arent bothered about Bradford and dont consider us rivals, an extra 7,000 turned up to see us, a League 2 team in the paint pot trophy than see a league 1 team in the fa cup

No Glenda sweetheart...add up the years spent pre Richmond in the old 4th division and play that against the number of seasons spent in the top half of the league.
I think you'll find on those figures our rightful place is like I say...exactly where we are....either do the sums or put the kettle on dear.

Yeah... whatever:rolleyes:

as I said, nothing... I say NOTHING!!, is cast in stone.
We are a totally different club from the pre-Richmond days.

I would have argued your case whilst we were hurtling down the leagues and ending up in the Khazi.. but I've seen what's here and above and I don't feel we fit the niche any longer... I really don't.

Yeh riiiiiiight whatever....Have you and Parrot being mainlining together this morning then Glenda. This club is still Bradford City...it still plays on the ground its always played on. The pennants and old trophies in the boardroom are still connected to Bradford City..you know..the club that was formed in 1903.
Its still Bradford City no matter if we had a quick taste at the top table. Its like folk saying Oldham Athletic or Swindon Town are still big clubs because they spent a season each in the Prem....do you consider them both to be big clubs darling?
Have you done the sums baby?:rolleyes:

who mentioned attendances? ... if you notice I purpously put 'big' in blips:rolleyes:

I'm talking about being the same status in football terms.. being able to consolidate in the upper half of the football league... sorry if you were confused. re-read my post.

me too... but there's nothing wrong with aspirations.;)

As far as attendances go BtW.. got me thinking.

We must, over the last two seasons, have recruited at least a couple of thousand new City fans with the ST offers... if we go up and Julie and Greengrass take in to account the recession etc... keep STs low, we could gain a few thousand more over the coming seasons.

We could be in a much healthier position support wise if we make the championship than the last time we were there...jump:tup:

Well... I can dream.;)

Yes but it's false you start charging the same rates as Burnley and the two Sheffield clubs you just watch the fall ;);) put it this way if Wednesday and the Dingles had our schemes there would 30 and 18k at both clubs

Sheffield Wednesday are the biggest club in Yorkshire it pains me to say. :(

Historically City are a 3rd/4th division club.

We are now because of our past 20 years and increased support & stadium a Championship side IMO.

We now have the support and financial potential to compete at Championship level, how many teams in the bottom 2 divisions could say that?

Dont forget our support base too, Bradford Metropolitan districts the 6th largest City area in England and we can draw support from a very large populated area.

I think those who think were the same club who last played in the khazi league need to face facts.:)

I'm not saying we would/should have cheap tickets in the champ... I'm saying we would have increased genuine support because of the initiatives now and over the next couple of seasons... maybe

I found this.. and although not scientifically 100% justified it pitches us where I see us at this time.
