... for nothing more than beating Leeds.
Derby 2 - Leeds 1 ; Carling Cup
Paul Jewell survived an embarrassing evening at Pride Park to finally put an end to a 18-year wait for Derby County to make it into the last eight of the Carling Cup, but it is difficult not to feel some sympathy for Gary McAllister, the Leeds manager.
McAllister wanted a test of his League One side’s credentials after making such an impressive start to their latest promotion bid this season, but it was Jewell’s side who had to withstand the toughest examination they have received at home this season before reaching the quarter-finals for the first time since 1990.
