I think on the whole I would agree with the sentiments and most of the time, teams get what they deserve over the course of a season.

I reckon City's report would read something like:

Has done some very pleasing work so far. Tends to suffer from a lack of concentration at times and can be a little disorganised, but always keen to learn and makes up for any lack of ability with enthusiasm and determination. If continues to work at this level for the rest of the year then a B+ is well within capability and an 'A' would not be beyond reach.

in the previous 5 years 88, 85, 81, 80 and 81 have been the points totals of the teams placed third. 83 is not guaranteed promotion form.

Has started well this year despite not quite living up to earlier expectations. Can be exceptional when effort and application is put in but has a tendency to be distracted. Has come in for some criticism but has responded well. Can be a bit easily led and causes own problems more often than not. Maintain a high level of concentration throughout the rest of the year and expectations of excellence can be met.

All in all a steady start, with promising signs of improvement. Keep up the good work. A-

Harsh Adie, i'd go for a B-

We're up there within a point of top spot without really playing well for any consistent period of a game never mind run of games. We have the players to do the job and if we can add good form and consistency we should make it over the line

Yeah, but with how tight the league is, there will be 4 or 5, 5 or 6 teams saying they "could" be top.

We're third, in an automatic spot and if offered that now I would snap your hands off!
