As a "Sheffielder" I thought I'd give you a bit of a guide to the Sheffield & the Don Valley Stadium.

I presume most City fans will be arriving by train. First bit of advice, when catching the train from Leeds be sure to catch the 10 past the hour, Cross country trains. These ones take 40 mins and only stop once (wakefield westgate), compared to some of the others which take over an hour and stopped at nearly everything station between Leeds and Sheffield.

On arrival in Sheffield, there's a couple of options for you. Firstly is to catch a tram from the train station and change at Castle Square and jump on a tram heading to Meadowhall. It takes about 15 minutes and costs about £3 return. Pubs around the Don Valley are fairly limited. There is a large retail park at the next tram stop called Center-tainment which has all the usual chain restaurant/bar types. Around the ground there is the Brittania, Arena Square, Wentworth and the Cocked Hat.

In my opinion you'll be better leaving the train station and heading into the City Centre. This is a short walk or hop in a taxi. The West Street area will be a good place to go as its Sheffield's main bar street and is also one of the main tram routes. These trams go direct to the Don Valley Stadium so just look out for those heading to Meadowhall. There are lots of pubs of good pubs on West Street, personal recommendations would be Walkabout and the Cavendish.

Another area to head to is Divsion Street, which runs parallel to West street and has easy access to the trams. There are a few more unique bars in this area including the Frog & Parrot and the Devonshire Cat for all you real ale fans, plus Bears & Bungalows, the Common Room (Pool bar), the Forum and Revolution.

Hope this of some help, and should make your visit to Sheffield a bit more interesting.

The armchair sounds a better option lol - not paying £20 for a possible soaking.

The facilties are pretty decent, although the view is as you'd expect pretty poor. The away fans are put in the end block of the main covered stand, this block is just as the running track begins to corner. The stand is partly covered, I think if you are in the top tier then you should stay pretty dry.
