Great following for a long trip from you guys again yesterday.

The first half was a bit of a stalemate, though I thought you shaded it with Daley causing us problems every time he received the ball out wide in space.

Start of the second half and we changed formation to 4-4-2 and brought Balanta on for the ineffective Spence. You changed nothing and continued as first half.

The second half was virtually one way traffic for us with Thorne and Conlon completely ineffective against Williamson and McCracken. Daley had one good run early in second half but was marshalled by the full backs and help from Zebroski who swapped wings when Daley was asked to do the same.

Thought we had scored on 53 minutes when the ball came off the inside of the post and ran down the line. Your keeper picked the ball up when he was standing at least a yard behind the goal line with his arms stretched out. Would like to see that one again?

More pressure from us and you could see us scoring.

A defencive error on 70 mins and we go 1-0 up with Lewis Hunt firing through a crowded box.

The next 10/15 minutes you have more of the ball and press our box. We look tired but you are unable to break our defence with no shots worrying Shearer.

On about 85 minutes Zebroski fires into the side netting when crossing for Harrold who was goalside of his marker looked the better option. That should have been 2-0 up or was that 3??

End of the game and I thought we were value for the three points.

Expected much more of you going forward, apart from some impressive runs from Daley in the first half you had nothing going forward. Thorne and Conlon arguably the worst front pairing this season at AP.

Once we get Doherty, Church and Bloomfield back from injuries we should move up a gear.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Jeez, what game were you watching? Good value for a 2 or 3-0 win?

Prepare to get shot down anyway.

Where do i say we were good value for a 2/3-0 win. I said we were good value for the win.

Well if you think every shot you have deserves a goal then you're probably right....

Ultimatley we were undone by your negative tactics and we played in to your hands by punting the ball up, which as you said, and everyone else saw, was not the way we were going to break you down and instead we should have used the pace of Daley and brought Boulding on to run the channels earlier

wwfc:

There was one shot in anger on target all game, from you to score the goal, and you got extremely lucky with that.

It was a stonewaller 0-0 for me, I didn't think you were better than us, you just got the rub of the green on the day with the one break of the ball and some dubious officiating.

No way it was a goal when it hit the post, surely you could see from the massive screen in the corner?

I felt we got what we deserved at Shrewsbury and Darlo, absolutely nothing. I came out of the game yesterday extremely disappointed not to claim a point. We were awful up front but apart from that I thought we dealt with your threats adequately at the back and looked better on the ball in the midfield.

If only we had some of our pacy players back going forward, the three points were there for the taking.

Balanta had a fierce shot in the second half that your keeper fumbled and only just picked up before Balanta was on him.

We scored , we hit the post and the side netting. You managed none of these. I am sure it will be a closer game when we come upto bradford next year.

Can you explain our negative tactics.

lee
16th November 2008, 04:15 PM
Balanta's shot was from outside the box straight at the keeper and there would have been a witchhunt if Evans had been beaten from there, let's be honest.

I have said we were woeful up front, I just think it was a very condescending report. You state we were the better side in the first half and the last 10/15 minutes but then proceed to tell us you were good value for a win.

You also had two real good chances yet you deserved to maybe win 3-0... I don't get the logic. The lad's shot into the side netting was never going in... I can remember Moncur having a belt from outside the box which flashed just wide of the post but I'm not kidding myself saying it was nearly a goal.

You were always going to have the better chances being at home, simply from the way we set up when we go away from home, I was just surprised at how few you created and how you had to rely on a flukey pinball to score your only effort.

I can't understand coming onto a City board and producing a report like that unless you were after some bites... well I suppose I've been done if that's the case.

I can't really wish you good luck as I didn't enjoy watching your style of play and judging from what I've seen of other teams I reckon you should be a lot further down the pecking order than you are, but I'm a bitter barsteward and make no bones about it.

See you for the return leg.

Can you explain our negative tactics.

Well i cant explain them no, thats probably one for Peter Taylor

I touched on it in the other thread but i didnt feel you took the game to us at all in the first half and admitted yourself it was only in the second half you changed to a 4-4-2 formation.

The impression i got was that you seemed to be playing for set pieces to score from them. Unfortunatley for us our defender made a mistake and it fell luckily to your player who scored. You were playing for a 1-0, got your goal and sat on it, fair play to you it worked, you got three points and are top of the league with a game in hand

So you agree that your comment "There was one shot in anger on target all game, from you to score the goal, and you got extremely lucky with that" was fatually incorrect.

The goal was certainly not flukey. He took his time and placed the ball through a crowd into the goal.

I did say you were the better team in the first half but not by much. No real opportunities for either team.

Second half before we scored we dominated you all over the park. Once we scored we were not going to commit so many men forward and you had more of the ball for 10/15 minutes.

I am very happy with the way we are playing at the moment. We are a joy to watch.

wheras our management team again showed their relative lack of experience by not changing thjings early enough - or were we really happy to sit out a 0-0 draw as well.
Thorne needs the ammo and will put the goals away, chasing long balls over the top is not his game - it can work for someone like Conlon, but not against a team who have only conceeded 6 all season! - it aint rocket science McCall/Jakes - if we had we could have snatched the points with a clever player like Boulding - and what had Osbourne done to warrant dropping to the bench again, we won at MK Dons by going at them from the kick off.
Rant over, bit 5 defeats from 16 played tells it's own story - making the 20 points target per 10 games played ever harder to achieve.

So you were aiming for Graeme Lee to fall over and the ball to fall right in to your defenders path. Granted the finish was no fluke but i wasnt refering to this...

I am very happy with the way we are playing at the moment. We are a joy to watch.

I'm very surprised by this stateement....I was bored for long parts of the game

So you agree that your comment "There was one shot in anger on target all game, from you to score the goal, and you got extremely lucky with that" was fatually incorrect..

Tell me how it's factually incorrect.. you had one shot which trickled onto the post, sorry to disappoint but that's not on target is it.

The goal was certainly not flukey. He took his time and placed the ball through a crowd into the goal.

He finished with aplomb but I was on about the way the ball broke to him, a few yards out in space in the box. He couldn't really miss. It was an unlucky goal to concede as 9 times out of 10 clearances like that would go into row Z.

I did say you were the better team in the first half but not by much. No real opportunities for either team.

Second half before we scored we dominated you all over the park. Once we scored we were not going to commit so many men forward and you had more of the ball for 10/15 minutes.

All over the park... OK we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I thought you put us under a modicum of pressure, more than you had prior to half time, but you created very little.

I am very happy with the way we are playing at the moment. We are a joy to watch.

You sound like you would give some of the OMBers a run for their money with your head in the sand! I can understand you being happy at grinding out results but I can't see how anyone would enjoy watching that every week. Still, each to their own.

Like I said, see you at VP.

I totally agree we did not take the game to you in the first half. With no Doherty in centre mid we were a little tentative.

Once the Colombian came on and we went 4-4-2 we took the game to you. We scored and defended our lead. If we go behind and need to score we have the armoury.

I'd be happy seeing City undefeated in the league - but frustrated at the lack of goals, there again you can't have everything and Baby Taylor certainly knows the way out of League 2 wheras we are still fumbling to find the right key.

I reckon Chris Brandon will be the answer to a lot of our problems, if he ever manages to play a game this season!

I've accepted we lost, I actually think it was a good performance to say most of the midfield are crocked and Boulding was on the bench. We just offered nothing going forward. Much better than Darlo though.

What's the point of a messageboard if you can't argue with an oppo fan talking out of his arse though?

The goal was certainly not flukey. He took his time and placed the ball through a crowd into the goal.

Granted the goal was taken well but having seen it again i dont know how you can say it was not lucky. It was passed aimlessly into the box, our defender slipped and hit it into the back of your player's leg and it deflected into your full backs path...
