Does anyone else rate him as highly as i do?

The kid gets better every week and although he is not perfect is shaping into a really cracking player.

He is quite nippy, gota a good pass on him and as proven a good shot! He riminds me of Lews Emanuel in the getting forward and creating chances.

His defending is good too, sometimes holds off rather than pressuring but experience will sort that.

GO ON OB!!!!

True -- the lad has taken his chance well -- maybe Jakes has an influence in there

Lets just hope the famous Valley Parade whingers don't get on his back if he has a couple of dodgy games as he is likely to.

Good luck to the lad, he's taking his chance and fighting for a shirt, no one can ask moretup:tup:

He's been really impressive, I think it helps that he has a bit of pace and nous about him which is refreshing after some of the mugs we've had over the last few years. He can defend and go forward and obviously he needs to work on his game but he's more than capable of being a good player in this league.

I wonder what would have happened if you asked someone who didn't watch City regularly who was the full back on loan from a Prem team and who had worked his way up from the yoof team on Saturday.

Played very well everytime i've seen and has set a good president to the squad.

As McCall said he plays alot better when hes not playing with Omar as hes too fast for him and cant run on and overlap...

Its always great to see players make the step up from youth to the first team. However I think he is a bit overrated at the moment. Yes he is decent going forward, but I have concerns over his defensive abilities. He doesn't go in for challenges as much as he should and allows too many crosses to be put in from his side. Also he isn't that fast... its just becasuse we got used to Heckingbottom who must be the slowest player in the squad!

That said he is still young and there is room for improvement. He deserves his run in the team anyway!

I think he'll be real asset next season. With more confidence and a run of games behind him we'll see the best of him next season.

I have to say that I just didn't think O'B had got what it takes and he reminded me of Swift but not as skillfull.

Whilst he's been caught out defensively a few times due to his lack of height/strength/experience etc his performances have changed my mind. I'm no longer worried that O'B is playing and whilst being a fan of Hecks I'm not too sure he'll come back into the team when fully fit.

If O'B keeps improving as quickly as he has done since the start of the season (which I doubt is possible) then he's going to be challenging Daley & Thorne for POTY;):)

I'm surprised by how many have commented on how good he is going forward, on Saturday at Rotherham he was very good attacking wise but before then he had a tendency to just hoof it apart from accrington away when we had nothing to lose and he put some really good crosses into the box. He has seemed to grow in confidence lately which resulted in the slick run and shot at goal and he also had another good chance in the 1st half. He sometimes gets caught out of position, Matt Clarke goes across to cover and then there is a massive gap between Clarke and Lee but it's something I'm sure we will notice and work on. (If we don't Ward and Lester will capitalise on it tonight)

He is getting better and it's great to see one of the youngsters given a chance at last. He could probably play as left midfield or left back, we tried that with Emannuel and it didn't work, he was a decent defender for us but was always played out of position. Ben Parker could defend for us but was slow as hell and ran like he had lead in his boots. I like to see the young lads that have been city supporters and season ticket holders come good for their home town club.

just hope the boo boys don't see him have a bad game and decide they have a new target - Emmanuel and Colbeck both had to go through that.

Lukey is taller than you think, he's 1.76m (5" 9 1/2') in old money. He's short limbed with a powerful body - the medical term is macrosplanchnic, such folk are often hard as nailstup:

Yes well done Dutch for a good spot! Clearly you have briliant insight there!
In all honesty hecky should by no means get back in if OB continues in this manner. Good going forward and decent at the back too in my opinion. His height let him down a little today but he made up for it with his other attributes.

Yep, you'll never see Hecky surging forward like that, winning corners etc. OB has been superb recently and hopefully he'll keep it up! tup:

I didn't quite have him in Nixs category, but 5'10" is average height for a man but still quite small for a defender.

Personally I'm short limbed and short bodied, so I'm twice as 'ard as O'B :D He struggled in the air against there no 4 last night and teams will no doubt pick him out for this.

I don't know if you can recall the pasting Glen little gave Jakes and Myers playing left back and CB? He beat us single handedly. City coped better when Tom Clarke went up against there no 4 from dead balls. O'B had another decent game

You'll have another advantage over OB, as well as you being twice as hard as him - folk who're long bodied tend to get dodgy liverstdwn:

Moahahahahahaha, this is a great thread!!!!! Go Lukey jump:
Like I said all along, should have been given his chance ahead of Ben Parker. Had to be worth a try back then. Maybe too soon for him back then but looking at him now would it have been more of a gamble than Parker?

As for my next choice of bright new thing... I did have one a while ago I thought might make the grade but he's not cracked on as much as I'd have hoped. And having spoken to him a couple of times I decided he's a complete knob-head, which is probably what has seriously hampered his development.

I'll let you know before seasons out who my next big thing is going to be.

He's sure proven me wrong, I didn't think he'd make it but he's certainly established himself in the team and good on the lad!

But saying we'll struggle to hold on to him like someone said is going abit to far.

I think if O'brien came up against Colbeck he'd get ran over, or even worse if he came up against Daley he'd have a nightmare.

I think to improve Luke O'briens ability to stop players getting past him i'd stick him on 1on1 situations with Omar in training for a while, because in reality your not going to come across a better winger in this League or League 1 are you?
