Everyones thoughts on TJ then?
after reading about on here for awhile it seems everyones fair pleased with him? and ive just been reading stuart is thinking of signing him.

not trying to be negative or anything. tonights win was shithot.

but ive not really seen anything from moncur that would make me want him at VP on a permanent basis. he gets forward ok but constantly messes up the distribution. he jogs back casually to defend when the other team are going hell for leather. his pass back led to a goal against barnet and from here i was sat this evening the second goal could have easily been avoided had moncur run towards the striker and put a wee bit of pressure on him instead of standing 2 metres infront of him and letting him have a shot ?

Arnison is a safer bet in my opinion. OB can get forward enough on his tod.

thoughts ?!

I prefer Arnison at right back but I think Moncur is a better centre back to be honest! I think the only reason Macca plays Moncur is that he gets forward supportsthe right sided midfielder and gets crosses into the box. Moncur's decent enough and I thought he did ok today, I'd be happy if we signed him! tup:

i must agree i thought he had a good game was it at grimsby? when we moved him into the centre with lee. seemed solid. i really do think moncur caused the 2nd goal tonight, a bit of pressure would have seen the ball wide im sure of it.

id like to see a diff right back come in january. maybe another centre back? or bower given a game.

But Moncur is a CB, a good one too! Arnison should be at rb!

I came over for the Barnet game and, to be fair, it was the first time that I'd seen Moncur.
However I was not impressed with what I saw of him at all, the goal he gave to the Barnet player was of Sunday league standard and he was abysmal!
So much so that I was hoping and praying that the ball kept away from him!
Maybe my opinion of him is utterly wrong and I certainly hope so if he is keeping Arnison out (when fit).

Still think he'd be a better CB but he's improving and his pace gets him out of trouble. Remember the lads only 20 and this is his first regular run of 1st team football. Good in the air and pretty fearless bombing forwardtup:

Quite right... we have to remember that this lad is keeping an experienced fullback on the bench.. he can only get better and would be a good signing as a utility player... because I think he could also do a job as defensive midfielder if required.

Good point KK he's pretty versatile and will get better with games playedtup:

I mentioned Moncur after the game last night!

Though he played a lot better in the second half and hasnt really done a lot wrong whilst he's been in the team - i still much prefer Arnison at RightBack!tup:

haha calm your passion yeadon.

i agree moncur is decent at CB. But totally agree id feel much calmer with Arnison at RB everyweek. I just expected more of TJ regardless of the fact hes twenty with him coming from fulham. Furman, Law, T Clarke are all only fair young themselves and a much better standard of footballer in my opinion.

But they're not up for grabs are they?

I don't like Moncur at all, especially at right back. He doesn't have a clue what to do with the ball when he get's it. I'd much rather have Arnison in there when he's fit and I'd have Bower and M.Clarke ahead of Moncur at centre half aswell. I hope McCall doesn't sign him, he's had a couple of good games but that's not enough.

no theyre not. unfortunately!!! but just because moncur is up for grabs doesnt mean we shud sign him? although i spose he would be a useful squad member. i just dont know if hes up for starting games week in week out yet.

Well Macca must rate him else Arnie and Bowser would be playing when necessary?

Arnison a better defender - he cannot tackle and any one with pace runs past like he is not there. Short memories cast your mind back when teams targetted him and crosses from the right led to goals against us at the beginning of the season.
Moncur has some has pace as he showed tracking back with Ward last night who is pretty quick. Moncur is much younger and is still learning - Arnison has been around longer. A fair comparison would be - how good was Arnison at Moncurs current age. Moncur is one for the future.

Arnison was at Newcastle, a reserve at 21. Like Moncur at Fulham nowhere near the 1st team. When he joined Hartlepool he was 22 and was part of the team that made the play-offs 3 years running in our division.

On paper they are very similar. Arnie would get my vote for his better ball retention and experience!!tup:

yeah arnison gets my nod due to the experience. moncurs tracking back is gash at times. gets caught napping too much. he might be one for the future but i havent seen the slightest improvement in his game all season, compare that to OB!

the whole 'xo' thing i shall refrain from using. ive just used it for yonks, one of my fave albums is 'xo' by Elliott Smith ?

Moncur is the better tackler, Arnison is the better player of the ball. Moncur looked totally lost when trying to carry the ball forward last night. Arnison would have been fine.

TJ carried the ball forward last night and then stopped when he got somewhere near their big number 6, Austin.

TJ has only played CB during his first stint on loan and considers himself a RB. I just about prefer his solidity to Arnison and whilst his balls out of defence are shite his crosses are pretty good. Shame Arnison has 18 months to go on his contract as I have a feeling that TJ will be joining us permanantley IF Fulham let him go for free as opposed to the "agreed" fee.

you are right about Arnison. At the start of the season he was unfit, unsure and a target for other teams. Everything came down the left and he did get skinned at times. But I think he stuck to his task (a bit like Baz I suppose) and prior to his injury, I thought he was showing why Macca had brought him in. Good work rate, good positional sense and a decent cross on him. He would be my choice at RB before T.J who I think is less composed in that position.

As for playing him (T.J) at CB, I don't know what Bower has done wrong to drop him down the pecking order behind Clarke M, Clarke T and Moncur.

sign him up if the option is there - he will improve - we need back up whoever is picked , be it Arnie the Terminated or Moncur.
