How can a team which is currently in a war torn part of the world be allowed to compete in a football competition.

If I were Liverpool I would tell Uefa to piss off. There should be a rule saying that clubs from countries that are involved in war/conflicts with other contries should be banned from competitions if it puts the opposing team in danger.

I don't even think it should be moved to a neutal venue I just think they should be kicked out regardless.

I hope the England team do the same when they are due to play there in March.

What a load of crap! Ban them for having a war in their country rather than move the game to a neutral venue? In that case they should ban English teams for having Tony Blair as prime minister. The political climate of country has noting to do with football what does is the safety of the players. To not allow the same opportunity to other teams like Maccabi Haifa just because of a war I absolute rubbish

It's not a question of war, it's a question of security for the visiting team and fans. Like has been mentioned quite a few times on the MB, what Israel is doing in European competitions is beyond belief, they are a middle eastern country with middle eastern people, just like Turkey. They'll be wanting to join the European Union next.

Quality question...Just look how interesting the live match between Iraq and Israel in Baghdad would be ...

as i mentioned what is important is the safety of the players so move it to a neutral not ban them.

It's also a bit dangerous to visit many of the former Soviet countries, since the local godfather not only runs the mafia, but he's the president as well.

Isreal is as much of a European country as Egypt and Syria.

oh so it's geography that you now wish to rely on to back up your argument that they should be banned for having a war?

No flies round you mate...

Sneaky bastards also get in the Eurovision contest too...

I have a sneaky feeling it has summat to do with their friendly neighbours...

Maybe that will point you in the right direction...

Entering a team into any local continent competition against countries that surround you and want to kill you isn't recommended....

I may hate everything Israel has brought onto the world through outside intervention in that region but i can just about figure out why they play in the European not Middle Eastern comps...

Chelsea played em in Isreal Matt. The players were given the choice wether to go there or not and they took a scratch side and lost the game.

Neither England (or the rest of the teams in the Euro Qualifiers) or Liverpool should go to Isreal, simple as that. If the games are to be played Neutral, then it should be somewhere close to the opposition like France or even Scotland for England and Liverpool. If the Isrealis further object to this, then award the ties to England (and the rest of the teams that have to play them in the Euros) and Liverpool.

No I still stand by my statement that any country involved in a war should not be able to compete in a football match, plus they should have bigger things to worry about.

then by that comment english teams should not be allowed to compete as we currenlty have troops in other countries and have a so called 3war on terror

It's about time Israel learned to live at peace with their neighbours and what better way, but by sporting events and middlvision song competitions :D

We may have troops in other countries but I'm not aware of us bombing and shelling other countries at the moment.

I wonder if a Lebanese terrorist would think twice about exploding a bomb at a sporting event which involved a team from Isreal on a neutral ground to gain a high profile strike back at the country currently bombing them.

Well how many people want to bomb us Rick?!! I don't think they would think twice about exploding a bomn at a sporting event involving England on neutral ground!! Does that mean that England can't play anywhere either??!!

I might be wrong so feel free to correct me but when Yugoslavia qualified for the 1992 European Championships they were thrown out due to the start of a civil war (Bosnian War) in their country even though the championships were held on neutral grounds in Sweden.

This may possibly more complexed that Isreal as Yugoslavia split up at this time too.

Anyway Denmark entered the competition in place of the former Yugoslavia now at war and won the tournament.

Uefa can't allow a country that is at war or in a state of war on their homeland to enter a football competition.

I think that was more to do with em splitting up into about 37 different seperate countries mate......;)

Just going by Baldy's most quoted internet site ;)

The 1992 competition was held in Sweden during a time of European political change, a united Germany was represented and as a result of the break up of the Soviet Union, a Commonwealth of Independent States of the former Soviet Union. Yugoslavia made it to the finals but were excluded as a result of hostilities in their country, Denmark replaced them. Surprisingly, the Danes went on to win the competition after a 2-0 victory over world champions Germany in the final.
